Elliwodth shifted restlessly on her ledge, sending Rivi fluttering away. The blue chirped irritably and went to curl up on Kiyoni’s bed. The green ignored the little firelizard and grumbled a bit.
Kiyoni swatted the hide off her desk angrily. She just couldn’t seem to concentrate that day. Actually the past couple of days had been like that and it was really starting to get to her. She ran a hand through her messy hair, pulling wisps of it out of its normal braid. Her hair came to settle around her face as she got to her feet and started pacing. She decided maybe a swim would help and quickly went to change into a pair of cut off pants and sleeveless shirt.
Elliwodth suddenly jumped to her feet with a bugle. Kiyoni ran out onto the ledge just in time to see her green take down a buck. Elliwodth’s normally spotless hide was glowing a dark green as she took down another buck and blooded it, lifting her bloodied muzzle to the sky and bugling. Who dares to try to keep up with me? She challenged, snapping her wings open.
Kiyoni froze. Of course. Why hadn’t she thought about that before? She had even told G’rett that Elliwodth was due to rise soon. The search rider groaned and spun around, running toward the flight room. She hadn’t even bothered to pull shoes on, so by the time she reached the flight room she was bare footed and a bit disheveled.
Elliwodth took to the sky with a challengingly bugle. The green caught a thermal, feeling full of herself that day. She was going to show off to everyone and let them see just how pretty she truly was.

M'lym groaned when he felt the feelings of lust from his dragon. He knew Chandrath wasn't Rising yet, so it must be a Green. Iverasth was very fond of both colors of females and he rose to chase Greens often. It could be nice, but also awkward. M'lym wasn't good with the morning after. But, of course, there was no way to stop his dragon. Especially now, when Iverasth was restless because there hadn't been a Queen rising in a while.
I will chase you, beautiful Elliwodth! Iverasth called, crooning as he rose into the air after the green. He flew steadily, knowing that endurance would be his advantage in this Flight, not agility.
M'lym headed for the Flight room. When he arrived, he bowed slightly to the woman, who he recognized as the Searchrider. "Greetings, Kiyoni," he said shortly.

G'rett was sitting at his desk, double-checking his flight report before submitting it to Q'del, when he heard Coth growl...and he felt an all-too-familiar sensation hit him. Shards, this can't be good, he thought to himself as he rose to his feet and walked over to where his bonded was...and stopped short. The Bronze, normally peaceful, was agitated, and his eyes were shot through with red.
"Coth? What is it?" G'rett knew what the answer was, but wanted to hear it.
Elliwodth Rises, his bonded replied, his mental voice carrying with it a powerful sensation. I must not let her be Caught by another.
The Wingleader staggered a bit, and tried to clear his head. "No, Coth. I really don't need to complicate matters..." But it was too late. The Bronze gave a mighty roar, then scampered down towards the ledge and leaped into the air, only spreading his wings at the last minute to catch a thermal. G'rett quickly followed, but stopped short of the ledge to watch as his lifemate took off.
The Bronze gave another mighty roar just as Elliwodth flew over him...followed by Iversath. Taking to the skies, Coth flapped his wings as quickly as he could to gain as much height and speed as possible. He wasn't about to let some other Bronze - or Brown or Blue for that matter - win this Flight! This Flight was his! He roared a challenge at the other males before crooning at Elliwodth. Back away! This one is mine! Lovely Elliwodth, Mistress of the Skies, I will chase you from here to the corners of this world!
G'rett watched as Coth's form started to fade into the horizon, then found what he was looking for. A white swordsman's shirt, but he'd only tie the cuffs and leave his neck and chest exposed. Dark breeches and his riding boots completed the ensemble. After getting dressed and leaving his hair unbound, he made way to the Flight room...only to find a few other Riders had already beaten him to the punch. Including M'lym. He tapped M'lym on the opposite shoulder in an attempt to distract the man, then smoothly slid around him to bow at Kiyoni and give her a winning smile. "Kiyoni, dear heart," he said warmly. "Coth and I are honored to participate in this Flight."

There had been drills this morning and Tesni had just emerged from the baths and was now dressed in a light tunic ans shorts. Her shorthair stood up in wet spikes. She padded back to her room quietly, hoping for a nap before lunch when she felt a surge of lust/anger from Kaitoth.
Eliwodth rises! the blue announced. Tesni frowned...wasn't Eliwodth...
Hey wait no, Kaitoth, we had an agreement! she protested. Nortmally her blue steered clear of flights where the rider was female. But he hadn't Chased in a while, and Eliwodth was his friend, there was no stopping him today.
Sorry Mine. I chase! With that, the blue dove off the ledge and sped towards the green, bugling his challenge even to the much larger males. I am come, lovely Eliwodth. I will catch you!
Tesni trudged to the Flight room in a temper, trying her best to shove down the rising lust she shared with her dragon. These were always so awkward.... Once she entered, one of the last to do so, she avoided the cluster of males around Kiyoni and slouched in a corner. Then, slightly tentatively, she opened her link with Kaitoth. **** Quindara was out on the weyr pinnacle, bagging firestone for her morning chore when she saw the green, an unfamiliar one, launch herself into the sky. Flights were interesting to watch, because the flying was more beautiful and daring than the average. But she felt she nearly had to swallow her her heart when she saw a familiar bronze rise from a familiar ledge to chase. "Coth..." she said under her breath, and then squishing her eyes shut, she bent back to her task, resolving not look. But Shadow was watching. **** Arktos was in his office, trying to catch a few moments of sleep on the cot next to his where before he would have to teach lessons. He heard the familiar cry of challenge from outside and he groaned, rolling over and pulling the pillow over his head. "Sharding greens.." he murmured sleepily. Arkysk too, seemed siturbed by the call, though the black normally completely ignored Flights, especially if they were during the day. But his tail was twitching violently.Forge too, flew down from his perch on the rafters and flew in agitated circles. It couldn't be Chandrath yet could it? Oh..he hoped not...that would surely result in one or two disqualified Candidates.... He sat up and rubbed his eyes.
"Who is it?" he asked his firelizard. Promptly the mental picture came, obviously collected from the minds of nearby flitters...The green looked so familiar..and then the rider. Arktos swore loudly, scaring Forge off. Why her, why now, when he could do nothing about it? He flung himself back onto his cot and buried his head into the pillow, drowning out all sound and thought. He didn't want to know.

Kiyoni stood quietly in the middle of the flight room, her arms crossed over her chest. She hadn't opened herself totally to her green yet, so she could still tell who was who when they came in. She smiled to each of them, but didn't make a reply. She hadn't never been a real flirtatious person even during a flight. Although depending how long Elliwodth went that could change. The rider slowly linked totally with her dragon.
Elliwodth looked over her shoulder to see who had been brave enough to chase her. She was pleased with what she saw. A mixture of bronzes, browns, and blues were following. She couldn't complain there. Although she wasn't about to go easy. She wanted to show these males just how well she flew. She angled her wings to catch the morning sun on her hide, causing her normally glittering hide to sparkle even more.
Come on boys! she taunted, shooting straight up in the sky only to do a back roll and end up behind them. I'm not even tired yet.
She would only choose the one that she felt was worthy. Although until then she was going to show off. She liked all the attention she was getting and she was going to soak that up for a bit before even thinking about choosing.

Iverasth growled at the other bronze. He wanted Elliwodth to have other chasers, but he wanted to be the only bronze involved. He surged ahead, trying to get past Coth. Only Elliwodth will choose that! He mostly ignored poor Kaitoth, although the blue would certainly add some serious competition for the clumsy bronze.
M'lym looked behind him at the tap on his shoulder, and he realized too late that it was G'rett. He found himself glaring at the man, although he didn't know why he felt so defensive. M'lym didn't care about winning this flight. But Iverasth did, and M'lym was going to get the full effect of that. He sighed and readied himself for what was about to happen with his emotions, his eyes on Kiyoni.
Iverasth watched Elliwodth fly up, but he didn't follow her. What went up...must come down! And she did, but not where he expected. Iverasth turned on a wingtip--well, as much of a wingtip as the bronze could manage. He sped after her, trilling in response to her taunts.

G'rett merely smirked at M'ylm as soon as the older man glared at him. "Jealous of the younger generation, M'lym?" the younger Wingleader teased the elder. "I'd almost be tempted to say your age is starting to show." G'rett gave the man a playful grin, then his attention was shifted as Tesni - Tesni? arrived in the Flight room. Well now, this was certainly getting most interesting. As far as G'rett knew, Kiyoni was attracted to males, just as much as he to females. Tesni's arrival meant her Blue Kaitoth was now participating in the Chase. G'rett really didn't want the Blue to win, but he would be curious as to how dragonlust would affect Kiyoni's judgment when it came to a woman sleeping with her instead of a man. Even though his lust was growing by the minute, something kept nagging in the back of his mind. Quindara. How would she handle this? Would she come and find him if Coth lost this Flight? Or would she try to find a way to get herself physically and sexually involved in what could possibly happen between him and Kiyoni, essentially making it a threesome, and therefore confirming his suspicions about his weyrmate-to-be swinging both ways? The only drawback would be him risking getting both women pregnant, and thus causing Quindara to become ineligible for the upcoming Hatching.
Either way, he knew he'd find out the answer soon enough. But he had to keep the link strong between him and his bonded...and mentally encouraged Coth to start utilizing his sense of tactics...
Meanwhile, Coth growled back at Iverasth as the other Bronze tried to pass him. You don't outfly me that easily, Iverasth! Coth roared his frustration, then looked over to see Kaitoth join in the fray. He narrowed his eyes, then only to look as Elliwodth shot straight up and over their heads to appear behind them, taunting them. Coth watched Iverasth start his turn, but instead of staying right with him, he chose to turn in the opposite direction, right into a crosswind. Instead of being blown off-course, the Bronze straightened himself quickly to wind up facing the opposite direction he'd started from, and stretched his wings to catch the full effect of the wind, giving him an extra burst of speed to break away from the rest of the pack, quickly closing the gap on Elliwodth and crooned at her. Lovely Elliwodth, do feel free to keep this up for as long as you wish. I will gladly outfly - and outsmart - the others just to be with you.

Kiyoni quietly watched everyone in the flightroom. She was slightly surprised to see Tesni, but she did ride a blue, so it wasn't a real big deal. Kiyoni turned away and closed her eyes. A single tear slid down her cheek as she finally gave herself over to her dragon's emotions. Her last thought was of how she was hurting Arktos and she never meant for that to happen.
Elliwodth was oblvious to her rider's turmoil. She was having the time of her life. She was getting to show off for the males and see how they would try to impress her. And she definitely wasn't about flattery and it appeared that the males had figured that out. The green almost laughed as she watched Coth and Iverasth seem to battle it out. She crooned when she saw Kaitoth.
You are brave to challenge these bigger males, she told the small blue. She wasn't ruling anyone out yet. Not until they proved they weren't worthy. You fly well, Iverasth. She looked back at Coth. We shall see if you can keep up, Coth, she crooned. And then I shall decide.
Elliwodth folded her wings and dove toward the lake. She spread her wings again just in time to skim the top of the water with a wingtip and her tail. The agile green loved to show off and normally when she did it showed her which males were smart and worthy of her. She caught a thermal and shot back up into the clouds, leaving her tail dangling temptingly.

I may not be big, but I am quick and smart. I will prove myself to you. Kaitoth replied. He knew, from the unwilling mind of his rider, that he could never outlast the bigger males, so it wa in his best interest to try to catch Eliwodth quickly. He followed her in the dive, but corkscrewed his body on the way down so that he came up out of the dive upside down. It made recovering from the dive a little trickier, but under the influence of the mating flight, Kaitoth was both confident and reckless.
He pulled up so close to the lake that the red swrils of his eyes were reflected in the water, but he did not notice because he was entirely focused on the green in front of him. With furious flaps of his wide wing he righted himself and rose on the thermal just behind Eliwodth, crowing his triumph.
Tesni still slouched in the corner, but some of her apprehension had vanished, lost in the simple joy of flight. She could feel a familiar burning in her veins and she resolutely stared up at the ceiling.
****
Despite her resolve not to watch, just a few moments through Shadows eyes was enough to make her look up at the sky again. If she hadn't been so torn up with anxiety she would have laughed in delight at the show of acrobatics a familiar blue, Kaitoth, she thought, was putting on. For more reasons than one, she hoped the blue would win...or anyone else but Coth.
The Quartermaster who was supervising the firestone bagging suddenly showed up. "Well, Quindara, you've certainly worked up a sweat today. You may go," he said, winking at her quickly. Without a word she left, tearing across the bowl and into the weyr corridors. She'd just well..she'd wait for G'rett and that way if..no...when... Coth lost, well she'd be there to wait for him. She sent Shadow to keep an eye on the Flight's progress.
But once she was near the Flightrooms, she could feel the mating lust start to affect her. This would not be the first time but...she clenched her fists to keep herself sane.

If M'lym had been less experienced and less patient in his non-Flight affected hours, he might have given G'rett a piece of his mind--and his fist. The younger bronzerider knew just how to push his buttons when he mentioned his age. Fortunately, M'lym still had enough hold on himself to simply ignore G'rett. He focused on Kiyoni, absolutely determined not to let the arrogant younger man bother him. Since he was staring at Kiyoni so fixedly, he didn't miss the tear that slid down her cheek. He was surprised, since most greenriders knew that their dragon's Flights were excusable, separate things that had nothing to do with real relationships.
At the same time, he felt a jolt of protectiveness that wasn't entirely his own. At that moment, M'lym felt deeply for Kiyoni, because his dragon wanted hers. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a handkerchief, one that was embroidered and a gift from his son. Stepping forward, he pressed it into the greenrider's hand.
Meanwhile, Iverasth tucked in his wings and dove after Elliwodth. He knew that she would rise again, for no female would end her Flight so close to the ground, but he followed anyway. He was strong enough to climb again quickly. He skimmed his claws over the water, an unusually delicate gesture for the bronze. Then he snapped his great wings up again and flew back up into the air, faithfully pursuing the emerald gem.

G'rett simply blinked in shock as Kiyoni shed a tear. Even though his mind was fogged with lust, he worried that she felt she was hurting someone. He thought it might be him, based on the conversation they had just over two sevendays earlier, then finally the night before. He vowed he would remain close friends with the Searchrider, and it would be a warm night between before he let anything or anyone dictate his friendships, Flight or no Flight. Even if he didn't win this one, G'rett knew he'd had to find a way to console Kiyoni afterwards. He just wasn't sure how he'd do it.
However, getting under M'lym's skin was worth it. The younger Wingleader knew just how to irritate the older man, and that last opportunity was just too good to pass up. Yet he could feel his own ire rise up when M'lym handed her an embroidered handkerchief, pressing it into her hand. He smirked at the man, then walked up to Kiyoni and gently brushed away the tear with his hand. "I never could stand to see you cry, Kiyoni," he whispered in her ear. "Even if your Elli doesn't choose Coth, I'll still catch you when you fall." G'rett kissed her cheek, then walked back and shot the other Riders a cool glance and flashed a winning smile at them before resuming his place.
Coth roared his frustration as Elliwodth dove down towards the lake, skimming its surface before shooting skyward again by means of a rising thermal. Kaitoth was the closest to her with Iverasth close behind, both dragons following her down - the Blue nearly unable to pull out of an inverted dive and would have caused him to crash spectacularly in the lake had he failed - then back up again just in time, remaining hot on the Green's tail. The tail wind that had been pushing him along faded, forcing the Bronze to start using his wings again to get back into this Chase. Narrowing his eyes, he searched for his next available opportunity to quickly close the gap...
There. A rising thermal a couple of hundred yards just to the right of the one Elliwodth, Kaitoth, and Iverasth took. Coth dove towards it, then snapped his wings open again at the last second, adding to his momentum to launch him higher into the clouds. Banking to his left, he soared past several of the other Browns and Blues that were participating in this Chase. Flapping his wings to give him another burst of speed, he gained ground on the two frontrunners, slip-streaming past Iverasth and Kaitoth both before roaring his triumph. Elliwodth wasn't too far in front. He crooned at her. You don't shake me that easily, lovely Elliwodth. I'll match you wingflap for wingflap, strategy for strategy. Do keep this up, however, for as long as you can. I enjoy this game.

Kiyoni slowly turned her head toward M'lym. She managed a weak smile as he handed her the handkerchief. She was surprised when G'rett suddenly appeared beside her and touched her cheek. She trembled slightly when he kissed her. "Okay," she whispered, her voice low and full of dragon emotions already. If she would have been thinking clearly she probably would have got on the two bronzers about tormenting each other.
Elliwodth seemed to laugh as she saw a couple browns and blues drop out after her trick. That was exactly what she had been trying to do. She wanted to weed out the ones who weren't worthy. She looked up when she caught sight of Kaitoth.
Interesting trick, she told the blue. She was impressed so far. And both bronzes were still in the chase. Although she noticed Coth had lost a little distance. Very good Iverasth, she encouraged him. She looked back at Coth. We shall see about that. Try this one.
The green did a barrel roll to come up behind them, running her wing tips along Iverasth's and Coth's backs. She wanted to see just what they were capable of before she made a choice.

Iverasth felt a burst of triumph when some blues and browns dropped out. Now it was just Kaitoth and Coth he had to deal with. Both were turning out to be formidable competition, but he was not going to lose confidence. Elliwodth's praise bolstered his spirits, giving him an extra burst of energy.
You are more than just a game to me, Elliwodth! Iverasth cried on the tail end of Coth's words. He twisted his neck around as she did a barrel roll, following her path with his eyes as she came up behind them. Iverasth shivered in delight when she ran a wingtip over his back.
He was so caught up in the moment that he decided to try a risky trick. He flipped around, doing a barrel roll of his own, but instead of landing behind Elliwodth, he flipped over underneath her. He flew upside down underneath Elliwodth. He wouldn't be able to hold it for more than a few seconds, but he hoped it would impress her.
M'lym was beyond his own thoughts now. He was with Iverasth, feeling the air over his wings. The people didn't matter anymore, just the dragons.

Coth looked up just as Elliwodth barrel-rolled and let her wingtip brush his back, prompting a predatory grin from the Bronze. Several other Blues and Browns were out of the Chase, leaving only him, Iverasth, and Kaitoth to battle it out to decide which of them would earn the Green's affections. He couldn't see where the smaller Blue was, but watched as Iverasth tried to duplicate Elliwodth's manuever, winding up inverted and directly underneath the Green. Coth growled at the show-off, and tried to counter with a trick of his own. He knew his size wouldn't allow him to be as agile as Kaitoth, but his long experience with his bonded gave him a tactical advantage over the other two males.
Inverting himself, Coth rose into a climb, coming back up and around until he was belly-to-ground, but continued his roll until belly-to-sky. It was a headache maneuver, and had G'rett been with him, probably would have caused his lifemate to temporarily lose consciousness. Coth sped up, using his wings to close the gap between him and the others, and found himself with his back to Elliwodth's. He lifted his neck to look the Green in her eyes, red eddies swirling through his own mixed with blue. The Bronze knew he couldn't keep this up for long, but had to outlast Iverasth.
G'rett could barely notice the other Riders leave the Flight Room, until he looked around to see who was left. Tesni and M'lym. That meant Kaitoth and Iverasth were still in the Chase. Focusing again on Kiyoni, lust rising, G'rett linked his thoughts with that of his bonded...but a nagging voice in the back of his mind kept telling him to turn around and look outside in the corridor to see if Quindara was there. Slowly that voice was being drowned out by dragonlust, and the Wingleader knew it would only be a matter of time before either he'd lose himself to flight lust or to his own. He could only pray the outcome would come soon, and Kiyoni and Elli would make their decision.

Kaitoth could tell that Eliwodth was planning something, just by the difference in the tension of her wing muscles, but even he didn't expect her to barrel roll and end up behind. The blue weighed his options quickly. He could do a flip..but then they would be face to face, not exactly what he wanted. So he decided to do something really reckless. Cupping his wings, he stopped in mid-air, dropping out of the midst of the group of males.
His plan was to rise up behind Eliwodth as she passed overhead, but that failed utterly because a brown who had just dropped out came unexpectedly under Kaitoth, fouling their wings. For a heart wrenching moment, they spiraled towards the earth together, abruptly jarring Tesni from the spell of the flight. "Kaitoth, no!" she yelled, and sped out of the room.
At seemingly the last moment, the two dragons pulled apart and both glided wearily down to the ground. Though both were mostly uninjured, for Kaitoth the Flight was over.
Quindara has been slightly jarred from her own lust and anxiety as she watched them fall, but as soon as it was apparent they were fine, she turned her attention back to the Flight. It was down Coth and Iverasth, and she was feeling a little desparate.
