Cheriss and her brother Demariss had just sat down to their evening meal. It wasn't very often that the pair had a chance to do so, when it happened they tried to enjoy it. Today they were enjoying one of Demariss's creations: Stuffed baked bird. It wasn't by far a fancy meal, but it was delicious and filling.
Cheriss was taking this time to regale her brother with another botched attempt at candle scents. This particular time she was trying out the virtues of dried herbs in the melt over fresh. While she prattled on, Demariss nodded in the usual spots while he happily ate his meal.
There was a cute stranger in the corner of the dining room. Demariss hadn't seen this person before, so he wondered from where they hailed. Studying the stranger, Demariss missed the look from his sister.
"Hey! De! You're doing it again!" She screeched as she lightly hit his arm. "I don't know why I try telling you anything! You're always staring at someone. Who is it this time?" She asked as she looked around the room. There wasn't many people in the room, for it was still rather early for dinner.
Finally she caught on to who he was watching. A newcomer? Well how about that, "De? Who is that?" Cheriss asked loud enough to be heard over some of the din.
"I don't know, Cheriss. But I would like to find out," he said with a grin.

Kiyoni and Elliwodth had decided to stop in on Green Valley Hold and see how it was going. They were both still on Search if they could manage to find anyone too, but at times the search rider just liked to see how the different Holds were fairing. Today had seemed like a good time to try it out.
The young woman walked into the room and looked around with a smile. It was nice to see a few people around. Rivi sat on her shoulder, watching everyone happily. The little blue chittered happily. "I know, Rivi. It's nice to see everyone so happy," she agreed, catching the siblings out of the corner of her eye.

Right away Cheriss noticed the blue fire lizard on her shoulder. With a squeal she squeezed her brother's arm. As much as she loved dragons, Cheriss dearly loved their smaller cousins. "Oh, Demariss, she has a flit! Do you think she'll let me touch it? No on here will let me touch one," She pouted.
"That's because you try stealing them sister. If you want one you need to catch a clutch. Or just ask someone for one when they have the next flight. You always seem to get what you want anyway, shortie."
Squealing again, she smacked her brother on the shoulder. Her twin could be such a pain. Just as she was about so smack Demariss once more, she caught eyes with the new comer. Slowly putting her arm down she smiled at the lady.

Kiyoni watched the twins quietly. She smiled a little. They reminded her a lot of herself and her brother. Rivi chittered softly as Kiyoni made her way over to them. She didn't see any reason not to be friendly. Besides, getting to know new people sounded very inviting to her. At least it helped her forget other things.
"Hello there," she smiled when she got within hearing distance of the siblings. "I hope you don't mind that I came over." Rivi chittered a greeting to them.

Demariss couldn't say a thing. He hadn't expected her to come over so quickly. With a compulsive swallow, the teen tried to manage a greeting in return. All he managed was a soft squeaky, "Hello," before he blushed and ducked his head. De was fine if he made the first move, but if someone showed any interest in him he was a hopeless cause.
Cheriss on the other hand had no such issues. With a large smile she bubbled, "Hello there! My brother and I were just trying to figure out where you came from! You're new here, aren't you? Or rather you haven't been here in a while. Such a pretty fire lizard! May I ask where you found it?" Cheriss was a hard one to keep quiet. Once she got started it was best to let her go at it. At least until she ran out of steam, like she did now.
Demariss had finally managed to find his tongue. As his blush faded, he glanced sharply at his kid sister. After playfully bopping her on the head, he turned to the lady, "My name is Demariss, and this blabbering fool is my twin sister Cheriss. What brings you to Green Valley?"

Kiyoni hid a giggle behind her hand. It was obvious that the two cared for each other. Rivi trilled happily and flitted down to the table in front of Cheriss, knowing he was being talked about. The blue always liked attention.
"Well, it is a pleasure to meet you Cheriss and Demarris. I'm Kiyoni and this little rascal is Rivi. Honestly, my brother found him for me and brought him back."
The search rider smiled as she listened to Cheriss rattle on, trying to make sure she answered all the girl's questions. "I am new. I'm from Nova Weyr and I just stopped in for a bit of a rest. Although there's always a chance of finding a candidate or two while I'm out," she smiled at the twins. "Elliwodth is outside right now enjoying the sun."

As Cheriss cooed at the blue, Rivi, Demariss was having a hard time not staring. Sometimes his tongue seemed to travel faster than his brain. This time was no different. "Kiyoni... Such a pretty name. Fits you well. From Nova Weyr, does that make you a search rider? Our older brother was Searched. Father some times teases us that we should be as well, to get us out of his hair," Now he sounded like Cheriss. Blushing once more he turned his attention to his meal.
Cheriss, while scratching an eye ridge, noticed her brother's discomfort. As all little sisters have done for ages, she relished the chance to make him squirm. With a mischievous look in her grey eyes she smiled becomingly at Kiyoni, "Would you like to join us in a meal? De cooked this one. It's not fancy, but man is it good! Demariss is one good cook when he tries," She finished with a beaming smile at her brother.
This earnest declaration earned her another playful smack. Cheriss didn't mind. She knew her brother, and knew that he was trying to be modest. Cheriss had no problem singing her brother's praises though. In fact she did it quite often.

Rivi crooned back to Cheriss. He was enjoying this. Kiyoni smiled at Demarris. Coming to Green Valley had definitely been a good idea. It gave her a chance to forget things for a bit. "Thank you," she smiled. "And yes, that does make me a search rider," she answered. "Oh, is that so? Well, maybe I'll have to have Elli take a look then. You never know." It would be great to find a couple more candidates.
Kiyoni looked over at Cheriss. "I would love to if you don't mind me imposing." Her blue eyes widened. "Really? Then I look forward to trying it," she smiled. "It's always a pleasure to meet someone who can cook." Kiyoni slid into a chair across from them. She was definitely liking the twins. They made her feel normal again.

Demariss stood to find Kiyoni a chair. While there was plenty of room at their table, the twins normally took it over just for them selves. Once he finished that, he went in search of a plate and a bit of the food the twins were eating. It didn't take him long to find some, grab a healthy portion and return to the table. Shaking his head at his sister's antics he carefully placed the plate of food before Kiyoni.
Cheriss was having a ball. Scratching Rivi, crooning too him, and generally acting like a child. Not that she cared. Everyone new the girl was bright enough, but she chose to take life as a game. Her eyes were still lit up from the mention of a dragon, but politeness required they feed their guest before they asked more favors.
Seeing her brother's return as a reminder to keep eating, Cheriss dug into tom her plate of food as her brother sat down. With a half smile, Demariss commented, "I do hope you enjoy the meal. As Cheriss said, it's not much, but it's filling."

"Thank you kindly," Kiyoni said when Demariss returned with the chair. She was liking the twins already. Coming to Green Valley was a great idea and she was glad she had. She felt Elliwodth in the back of her mind and she closed her eyes briefly.
I want to meet them, the green said. You seem happy and I want to know why.
I'll bring them out after we eat, she promised her green.
Rivi crooned happily and leaned into Cheriss' scratches. The little blue wasn't above begging when he saw all the food.
"Rivi, no begging," Kiyoni warned, but of course he didn't listen. "The food looks wonderful, Demariss. Thank you."

As Demariss blushed, Cheriss handed Rivi a piece of hot meat. Giggling at her crime as Kiyoni warned him not to beg, Cheriss tried to look contrite. But she did it again as soon as the rider's eyes were away. Giggling again, Cheriss knew Demariss would scold her.
Sure enough Demariss saw his sister's actions. With a good natured groan he commented, "Little sisters are annoying. Stop feeding your food to Rivi. You heard Kiyoni. Now eat!" He commanded with the air of an older brother, even it if was by just a quarter mark. Digging into his own plate he watched to make sure his sister did as well.
With a saucy wink his way, Cheriss mimicked her twins actions. Sometimes the pair still acted like children, like now. Demariss stuck his tongue out at his sister. Cheriss was never one to back down from a challenge, stuck out her own. However hers was covered in mashed tubers. Giggling, Cheriss forgot about manners for a while and did it again.

Rivi crooned happily and accepted the meat. He greedily gobbled it up before looking innocently up at them. Kiyoni laughed. Rivi was the king of begging, so she really couldn't fault Cheriss for giving in.
"I used to bug my brother like that all the time," Kiyoni grinned, remembering the times she had drove T'mil crazy. Although they had gotten along extremely well. She took a bite of her only food. "Mmm, this is really good," she commented.
Mine, Elliwodth prompted.
Kiyoni giggled again as she watched. "My green Elli was wondering if you two would like to meet her after we're done eating. She's been asking who I've been talking to."

Cheriss dropped her spoon as she heard the request. A dragon wished to meet her? Mouth agape, grey eyes twinkling, Cheriss was for once speechless. All she could do was squeal and grab Demariss's arm. Trusting him to answer for them both, Cheriss tried to stop squealing. Surely she would scare someone with the awful noise.
Demariss's reaction was a bit more sedate than his twin's. A huge smile lit his face as the request sunk in. "A dragon wants to meet us? We both would love to! But are we dressed right?" He asked suddenly nervous about his usual attire. The well worn clothing had a few spots of undefinable food from the meal's preparation. Blushing he tried to pick off a bit of the dried bits.

Rivi hopped back in surprise. He hadn't expected such a sound from Cheriss. He looked back at Kiyoni with whirling eyes. Kiyoni gently scratched the blue's head as she smiled at the twins' reaction.
"Perfect! Elli will be thrilled to know you've both agreed." The green rider shook her head. "You're dressed fine," she assured Demarris. Elli won't mind a couple food stains. Especially if I tell her how great of a cook you are," she teased the young man, trying to put him and his sister at ease.

Once the screeching stopped, Cheriss blushed deeply. She did scare someone. Poor Rivi looked so disgruntled that she had to make amends. Spooning out another piece of meat, she offered it to the blue. "Oh! I didn't mean to startle you, Rivi. I'm just excited about meeting a dragon. I've never been close to one. Papa wouldn't let us after Rissem died. Oh! De do you thin Papa will be mad?" She asked worriedly. The excitement in her eyes dulled slightly at the thought.
Demariss shook his head. He knew his sister was excited, but did she really have to fed the flitter from her spoon? As she asked about Papa, Demariss thought for a moment. Finally he answered, "I don't know, Cheriss. He knows we're old enough now. He should be okay with it. Just don't do anything rash or foolish, shorty. I don't know why I bother asking, but please try!"
