Calyssa was glad to see that he was able to stand again. Although she caught herself wanting to reach out and steady him when he seemed to sway just a bit. Shards, what's wrong with me? I just met him. She smiled. "I'll introduce you. And I would love to meet your family," she said cheerily.
Storm bobbed his head at the idea and crooned happily. Calyssa laughed. "I'd say Storm would like the company. Won't Sertex be surprised when he sees two flits coming to get him," she laughed as Storm flittered around his head.

Grinning as if he'd just won the pot in a game of high-stakes dragon poker, Jaysen replied. "Done and done." Misty likewise chittered excitedly. She'd get to meet more people! Lifting off from her pet's shoulder, she flittered around his head, opposite of Storm, crooning with delight. The queen then trilled a question at the bronze, wondering where they would go on this adventure.
Jaysen laughed along with Calyssa. He definitely was getting to like her. "Seems Misty's already made up her mind," he said. "I'd like to hear what your brother has to say when they show up right in front of him."

Storm chittered again and blinked between, making sure Misty knew where they were going.
Calyssa laughed as she watched the two firelizards. She had never seen Storm quite so happy before. "If I know Storm he'll make sure to pop in right over Sertex and scare him. He loves doing that."
And that is exactly what happened. Storm appeared right in front of Sertex and caused the boy to fall out of his chair with a shout. The bronze rolled his eyes as Misty hovered next to him.
"Storm!" Sertex shouted, but stopped when he saw Misty. "Who's your friend?" Storm showed Sertex a picture of Calyssa and Jaysen as he waited impatiently for Sertex to get up. "Oh, I see," he said, brushing himself off. Sertex reluctantly left his studies and followed the two firelizards. "So, what has Storm all worked up?" he asked stepping into the common room and catching sight of his sister.

Jaysen stepped forward and extended a hand to the new arrival. "I'd say it was my gold firelizard, Misty." Misty trilled her own introduction to Sertex, then settled down on her pet's shoulder. "I'm Jaysen, by the way. I arrived about a sevenday earlier from Azure Isle." He tapped his journeyman's knots on his shoulder with a free hand. "Been sailing and fishing since I was old enough to swim, though Searchrider Kiyoni never told me I'd have to stay in quarantine when I made port." He frowned. "I was fortunate enough to participate in the touching, but was warned to stay well away from the rest of the Candidates."
Jerking his head in Calyssa's direction, he continued. "Your sister, ah, sort of ran into me earlier. Literally." Jaysen shot the girl a mock glare, then grinned at her before returning his attention to Sertex.

Sertex glanced over at his sister before shaking Jaysen's hand. "I thought I saw a gold when Storm scared me out of my chair," he said with a laugh. "I'm sure Storm is enjoying having her around. I don't think he's really been around my other flits at home." The boy smiled. "Sertex, apprentice beast crafter. Sailing huh? Sounds like fun. Never really got a chance to try it. I was usually out in the fields." The younger teen nodded in sympathy. "Quarantine was no fun. I honestly don't remember Search rider Tesni telling us either, but I was too excited to be at the Weyr to listen to everything."
Calyssa blushed a little at Jaysen's comment. Sertex glanced at his sister, trying to read her face. Calyssa stuck her tongue out at him playfully. Sertex laughed. "She can be klutzy sometimes," he teased.
"Not true!" Calyssa shot back.

Chuckling, Jaysen could only nod. "Well met, Sertex. And yes, Misty is enjoying meeting new people and making new friends. I'd say she and Storm are getting along pretty well." He arched an eyebrow when the younger teen said he'd never had the chance to try his hand at sailing, having spent more time in the fields. "There's always a first time for everything. Hopefully I'll be able to launch a boat out onto the nearby lake. Misty and I will take any time we can get to be on the water." The queen firelizard chirped in agreement.
"I told your sister being in quarantine was like being in the doldrums," Jaysen continued. "Basically it's nothing more than really, really calm winds that don't push much on your sails." He gave a helpless shrug, then noticed Calyssa blushing at his comment about her running into him, then doubled over in laughter when the siblings started to razz each other. He'd never seen anything quite like this.

"I have a feeling Cal may have to keep a close eye on Storm now. He'll probably be a real pest to you and Misty," he smiled. Storm shook his head in disagreement. Sertex chuckled and turned back to Jaysen. "Really? Maybe sometime you could teach me a thing or two? I'm always up for learning something new."
Storm fluttered his wings as he listened, cheeping at Misty. He was liking the gold flit. "Hmm, accurate description," he agreed. "It reminds me of waiting for an animal to give birth. You can't rush it and that can the most boring time."
Calyssa rolled her eyes with a laugh. "Did I forget to mention that my brother lives and breathes animals?" she teased, feeling much more comfortable now. Although she had definitely been enjoying her conversation with Jaysen.

He snerked when Sertex suggested Calyssa would have to keep a closer eye on Storm. "Misty's always been able to take care of herself, though she prefers to be close to me." The queen firelizard chittered her response, suggesting she didn't like being too far from her pet. "And I'd be happy to teach you the basics on sailing and fishing. The Candidate Master suggested I might be able to help out on the respective classes. Though I've never actually taught anyone before." Jaysen frowned. He wasn't sure if he could do it, but Misty trilled at him to cheer him up, earning an affectionate rub of the underside of her muzzle before she crooned at Storm.
Jaysen nodded slowly at Sertex's animal analogy. "Wouldn't know the first thing about herding beasts. I tend to use ocean analogies frequently myself." He chuckled softly at Calyssa's comment. "Aye, just as much as I live and breathe the waves of the ocean and the salty air." He could tell she was getting more comfortable around him, which helped. He then looked around. "Hmm...I thought there would be more Candidates than this?"

"Great!" Sertex said happily. "I'll be looking forward to it!" The boy always loved learning new things and this wouldn't be any different. He knew his heart would always be with the animals, but sailing sounded liked fun. "That sounds like Storm. He never leaves Cal's side."
Calyssa nodded. "That's true. Storm has been with me since he first hatched." Storm bobbed his head in agreement, but chittered at Misty. He was liking the new flit. She chuckled. "Then it sounds like you and Sertex should get along just fine."
Sertex looked around the room. "I don't know where the others are," he said. "Normally there's a few more around then just us two."

As if on cue, a very slight, rather obviously nervous girl skittered into the commons room. Roni had been keeping a low profile since getting out of quarantine, avoiding the other candidates (and everyone else) to whatever extent she could manage. The less contact she had, the less likely she was to make anyone angry, or let anyone down.
She had, of course, attended the touching, so, the faces of the others in the room were not completely unfamiliar to her. But, for the most part, she'd done her chores with a silent fervor that had allowed her to mostly tune out the chaos of the Weyr. Not to mention the dangers. That's what her father said. It was dangerous.
She was only planning to pass through the common room, she wanted her carving tools to busy her while she had no chores to fill her time with. But there were, well, people.
And you couldn't just walk past them too! The firelizards drew her eye as well, even if they were, as her father said, useless things. She stood frozen, just inside the room, looking at the others from under her curtain of hair. Certainly not brave enough to join the conversation, but not quite willing to simply skitter back out again.

Misty trilled with delight when a new person came into the room, prompting Jaysen to turn and look. He'd seen this particular girl at the Touching, but because he wasn't officially released from quarantine he couldn't get a closer look at her. She seemed to be maybe no older than thirteen or fourteen, but Jaysen couldn't tell by the loose bangs obscuring her face and the slight build. Still, it was nice to see someone new, especially a fellow Candidate.
"Greetings," he said warmly, bowing his head at her. "You're more than welcome to join us if you wish. I'm Jaysen, by the way." The young sailor reached a hand up to rub the underside of his queen firelizard. "This is Misty." Crooning a greeting at the girl, Misty's eyes seemed to catch the light, turning them into glistening emerald-like gems.

Storm followed Misty's gaze. The bronze cheeped a happy greeting. Sertex and Calyssa turned around. Calyssa smiled. She had met Roni a couple of times since they were in the same barracks, but the girl always seemed really quiet and Calyssa hadn't actually been able to draw her out into a conversation. "Hi, Roni," she greeted.
"Yes, please, join us," Sertex smiled. "I'm Sertex," he added. The young man always liked meeting new ones and he kind of felt bad for Roni. She seemed so shy. He figured that had to be hard one her being in a new place and everything.

If it weren't for Calyssa's presence, Roni more than likely would have done no more than mumble a quick greeting before rushing away again. Pretty firelizards or no, she knew perfectly well what her father had said about hanging around with boys. Weyr boys, no less. And if they weren't from the Weyr, they were in the Weyr, and she was prepared to be literal. But Calyssa said hello, and called her by name. Roni knew how rude it would be to walk away from that.
"Honored. To meet you. Sertex. Jaysen. I'm Ronasha. Roni. Either." She had an odd, choppy way of speaking, that Calyssa, at least, would be familiar with. Her small bow, however, was impressively well executed. "Hello, Calyssa. It's, umm, nice. Seeing you. Again."
She wasn't quite willing to go sit among them, but she did skitter, closer, lingering, nevertheless, with her back to the wall.

Calyssa gave the girl a reassuring smile. She felt bad for Roni and had tried to talk to her a few times. Storm chittered softly. He glided over to say hello to Roni, wanting to make her feel welcome.
"Well, it is an added pleasure to meet you," Sertex smiled. "Cal mentioned your name a couple times, but it's nice to put a face with the name now." He was hoping to put her at ease. He could see she was a bit nervous still.
