G'rett placed his own hands on Quindara's cheeks when she placed hers on his. He wanted to remember what she felt like under his touch, fearing he would lose himself to the upcoming Chase and lose his love at the same time. Somehow, he'd have to win this one just to keep his sanity...and to keep the heart of a young woman named Quindara. She looked into his eyes, he looked into hers when she spoke, and could only nod when she admitted it would bother her, yet as long as the other Riders knew he belonged to her, she couldn't hold it against him...nor would she expect to be friends with those other Riders. "I'll make it known that I'm yours, Quindara," he replied. "But that won't be easy to say under the influence of dragon lust. I promised you I will always come back to you, because I love you very much and want to be at your side. You already hold my heart. I'll find a way back to you after this Flight is over and make it up to you." G'rett wasn't sure how he'd do that at that particular moment, but he silently vowed he'd make good on his promise. "And I won't expect you to be friends with the other Riders of Coth's victories. I could never ask that of you, at least not in my right mind. But that will be up to you to decide. Either way, I'll support your decision."
He had to grimace when Quindara told him she couldn't leave. "I don't want to put you through this," he said. "And I wish I could be with you to get you through." He gently pulled her face closer to his, and he kissed her, holding the kiss for a moment...then let it stretch a bit longer as he lowered his hands and arms to wrap them around her waist. Finally he broke the kiss, and rested his brow against hers, looking into her eyes. "Come find me," he whispered. "Come find me after the Flight. I can only pray Coth will lose this one, and I don't want to take advantage of you like that, but I'll need you to pull me through."
"I love you, Quindara. I'll always be yours no matter what. I'll find a way to be at your side as your weyrmate."

"I can ask for no more. That is just the way things are," she admitted sadly, staring up at him. Sometimes, she wished for a simple holder's existence...but she didn't really mean that. How could any life compare to that of a dragonrider?
"I will get through it, and I will find you. You know that's one loss I definitely won't mind consoling you over." Now she really smiled at him, and allowed herself to be pulled into his kiss. She knew the logic of it, but there was also a part of her that knew things would be different once the worse had actually happened. As in control as she was now, she hoped to could keep her head if Coth actually won a Flight. This was one man she couldn't bear to lose, especially to her own jealousy.
"I love you too. Thank you, for warning me. Many men wouldn't have."

G'rett could only nod, mixed emotions freely showing on his face, but wished he could hold his kiss with Quindara forever. He knew he couldn't, though, but had to grin when she told him she would come find him. "Don't keep me waiting too long. I don't like to keep you waiting as is because it isn't right for me to do so. And I'm not like other men. I'll find a way to prove it to you. The moment Coth wins your female dragon's maiden flight, that's when I'll make good on my promise." He kissed her again, then started to reluctantly pull away. "I need to return to my quarters," he said softly. "I'll see you soon. I love you."
G'rett faded away into the shadows, and knew Kiyoni waited for him within. No sooner did he fade from sight did he tap her on the shoulder and pointed in the direction of Arktos' weyr, then nodded. Now it was Kiyoni's turn, and the Wingleader would wait for her just as she did for him.

Kiyoni had stood quietly while G'rett talked to Quindara. She really hoped the two of them were able to last through this. She would feel awful if anything happened because of her.
The search rider looked up at the light tap. She had been so preoccupied that she hadn't realized G'rett had returned. She nodded, hoping her conversation with Arktos went all right. She wasn't really sure how he would react. Kiyoni took a deep breath and headed for his office. She stood outside and knocked on his door, not wanting to scare him or Arkysk.

Arktos appeared at the door a moment later, at first only poking his head out, but when he saw who it was, he opened it wide, so Arkysk could come out. The black wher leaned his huge body on the diminutive Searchrider, crooning his desire to be scratched. Arktos looked slightly rumpled, he had only recently been sleeping.
"Kiyoni, this is a surprise, all be it a pleasant one." He took in the worried expression on her face. "Come in, is something wrong?" he asked, frowning slightly, a feeling of dread coming over him. He opened the door wider still, and called Arkysk inside.

G'rett waited patiently within the shadows of the corridor, avoiding any traces of torchlight that would otherwise give his presence away. He managed to stay out of eyesight - and earshot - of the Candidate Master's weyr, but he knew that black wher would instantly pick up on his presence if he came another five feet closer than where he was. He watched as Kiyoni knocked on Arktos' door, the Candidate Master's head poking out a few moments later followed by Arkysk...and the black wher leaned his body against the Searchrider's.
G'rett willed his heartbeat and breathing to remain as calm as possible. He could ill afford to be seen or heard right now.

Kiyoni was relieved to see that Arktos was there. She smiled when Arkysk came out and she obliged him by scratching his eye ridges just like Elliwodth liked. "Hey, Arkysk," she said, willing her voice to remain calm. She looked back up at Arktos, her heart beating fast. "I'm sorry to be bothering you this late," she apologized.
The search rider followed Arktos back inside. She nodded a little at his question. "I wanted to talk to you," she said quietly. "About Elli and us."

Arkysk crooned happily as his eyeridges were scratched just right and then reluctantly followed his bondmate into the office. When he heard what Kiyoni wanting to talk about, he felt a cold knot of fear form in his stomach. He sat down heavily on the couch, and gestured for Kiyoni to be seated beside him.
"Well..I...okay, lets talk." he said, trying to calm his breathing. He wanted to be able to talk rationally, but he feared the worst.

Kiyoni was reluctant to lose Arkysk's company. She knew she needed to do this though. She quietly followed them inside and took the offered seat. She looked up at Arktos. This was going to be the hardest conversation she's ever had.
The search rider nodded. "Elli's soon to rise," she whispered, looking into his eyes, pleading for understanding. "But I don't want to lose you. I don't care what the outcome is. Although I can't keep Elli from rising. I'm sorry," she whispered.

He swallowed, trying to give the news some time to sink in. It was so soon, he wished he'd have more time to be with her. What if she liked the other man more? But he nodded. "I understand. You shouldn't be sorry for something you can't control. I... don't want to lose you either."
Arkysk laid his head in his bondmate's lap, trying to give comfort. Arktosk patted his great head absently. He suddenly felt the loss of Bjornth more deeply than he had in many Turns. Never again would he feel the same during a Flight.

Kiyoni watched Arktos' reaction. She hated how sad he looked and she wished there was more she could for him. She looked down at her hands for a brief moment. Time would be great. But she knew she couldn't change when Elliwodth rose. "I'm sorry this is so soon," she whispered, looking back up at him.
The green rider got up and moved over to kneel in front of him, not disturbing Arkysk. "I'll always come back to you," she whispered, kissing his cheek. "No matter what happens."

He really wanted to believe that statement, but it was not in his nature to trust so easily. Not that he thought she was lying, but he was sure that after the Flight she would think differently. Arktos had learned not to have high expectations from life. But he would make the best of it while he did have her, he vowed. He reached to embrace her, not caring that it was an awkward position. Arkysk kindly moved out of the way, so that he might hold her closer. He ran his fingers through her hair, sighing with a mixture of contentment and regret.
"I wish I had come to know you long before now."

She could tell that he was still a bit leery. Not that she could blame him. Flights could change a lot and she still worried about losing people too. But this flight wasn't going to change her mind about him. She had had plenty of flights and none of them had meant anything to her. It was just a part of being a rider. But she had true feelings for Arktos. Ones that she had never had before and she wanted to keep feeling special in his arms. Kiyoni laid her head against his shoulder and sighed softly as he ran his fingers through her hair.
"You know me now," she said softly, looking up at him. "And I plan on being around for a long time."

Arktos uses his strength to pull Kiyoni up so that she was cradled in his lap. "You're so light," he said, suddenly laughing. "I will be here for you, as long as you will have me. I have never been more glad to be interrupted at star-watching. Usually, it's one of the Candidates." He looked into her face, as if he would memorize every line. He never wanted to forget how it felt to have her warm and soft in his arms.

Kiyoni giggled a little as he pulled her up onto his lap. "Am I?" she asked. She had never really thought about it before. The search rider grinned. "I've never been so glad for Elli to kick me out of the weyr because I couldn't sleep." Kiyoni snuggled against him, just wanting to be held for a few seconds. She knew she couldn't leave G'rett standing out there by himself for too long, but she also really didn't want to leave Arktos.
