Kiyoni was slightly surprised by the hug, but it was exactly what she had needed at that point in time. She leaned against him before they both separated. "Thanks, I needed that." She smiled shyly. "No reason to explain."
The search rider looked up when he touched her chin. She nodded a little. "If I see her I'll tell her. I don't want her being mad or jealous," she said softly. "I don't want to come between the two of you." Kiyoni sighed. She knew G'rett was right. One just never knew with dragons. They may not even have to worry about anything. Coth may not even want to fly Elliwodth. "You have a point. We'll just have to see what happens."

G'rett simply smiled warmly at Kiyoni when she thanked him. "Anytime," he said. "I tend to be a man of my word, so you don't have to worry about not coming to see me. In fact, I'd be a bit worried if something was bothering you and you outright avoided me." He did his best to hide his disappointment when he let Kiyoni go, but he didn't want to complicate their relationship either.
Yet when the Searchrider voiced her concern about Quindara being mad or jealous, the Wingleader simply chuckled softly. "Quindara might be a redhead, Kiyoni, but she tends to be agreeable in most cases. The two of you just might hit it off rather well. But you'll never have to worry about coming between her and me. Never in a thousand turns." He held up a hand as if to forestall any further comments Kiyoni might voice. "You and I are close friends, Kiyoni, and we will remain so no matter what happens. Even if Coth catches Elli every time she Rises and I wind up sharing your bed. Even if he doesn't bother Chasing at all. Still. Bottom line is, we will always be close friends until my very last breath. And there won't be a sharding thing you can do about it, either. I don't let my circumstances or anyone in my life dictate whom I choose to be friends with." He said the last part playfully, but he meant it.

Kiyoni actually managed to relax again. "Well, I will make sure not to avoid you," she teased. "I wouldn't want to do that anyhow and I really do miss having someone to talk to. I used to always talk to T'mil." She was grateful for G'rett. There was times that she felt alone and just wanted to talk and being held by him had felt good.
She nodded. "Well, as soon as I get some free time I'll make a point of finding Quindara. I'm always up for making new friends." The search rider stared at him in surprise. Her face flushed slightly. "Well, I value your friendship and I would hate to loose it." She shook her head a little. "Elli has always chosen different males, but then again, I don't think she's really found one she likes, so she may just settle on Coth," she teased him. Not that that would bother her as long as it didn't bother him or Quindara. "Well, I'm glad to hear that."

G'rett simply nodded. "The only people I could really talk to were my mother and father. Though I have to warn you, being a Wingleader means I'm a lot busier these days. Still, don't be afraid to come see me. I'll always make time for you." He winked at Kiyoni, then simply grinned when she mentioned she would find Quindara. "She's not hard to find. As far as I know, she's the only redheaded female Candidate we have." G'rett didn't make it known that Q'del was Quindara's brother, but that was something he wanted to hold back for the moment. Had Kiyoni known about it, she would have probably warned the Wingleader about getting involved with a Candidate before the Hatching. G'rett didn't need to be reminded; he already knew the risks and opted to wait instead.
He had to laugh, though, when Kiyoni teased him that Elli would probably settle on Coth. "It wouldn't surprise me if Coth became a bit choosy himself," he shot back, equally as playful. "He'd probably settle for two or three females and that would be it, and if I know him, Elli would be at or near the top of that list."
Speaking of..."I think our dragons would probably appreciate it if we started to head back in their direction." G'rett made a mental note to himself to ask Coth - privately - what he thought of the Green and just how much he'd be willing to Chase her if she ever Rose.

"My brother and I were abandoned when we were just babies, so I never knew my parents. We grew up in the creche," she said softly. Kiyoni smiled. "Trust me, search riders can be quite busy too, but I won't be afraid to track you down if I need you," she not, thinking about how that sentence came out. She thought for a minute. "The only redhead huh? Should be simple enough." She figured as soon as she had some free time she'd track the candidate down. Just in case.
Kiyoni chuckled. "Dragons. Gotta love them. You just never know what they're going to do." She smiled. "Well, I would be honored if he chose Elli and I'm sure she'd stay with him for each flight." She'd definitely have to see what her dragon though later.
The search rider looked back toward the other shore where Elliwodth was still trying to splash Coth. She sighed wistfully, not really wanting their conversation to end yet, but nodded anyway. "You're probably right. Otherwise they may come after us," she said with a playful grin.

"You and your brother were abandoned?" G'rett gave Kiyoni an incredulous look, as if not wanting to believe her. That meant she never knew whom her parents were, and as far as he knew, that made her the sole survivor of her line. "Remind me before you head to Nova Hold on your next Search to have me tag along. If I have time. I think there's a couple of people who would be interested in meeting you." G'rett was referring to his parents - even though Kiyoni wasn't his weyrmate, he was almost positive his mother and father would take her in as one of their own children. "And yes, finding Quindara should be simple enough."
He chuckled along with Kiyoni's comment on how she'd be honored if Coth chose Elli, and if the Green stayed with him each time she Rose. "I'm sure we'll make it work," he said with a wink. "That's what close friends do anyway." With that, he started swimming back toward the other shore, going much slower this time to allow Kiyoni to keep up with him.

Kiyoni nodded. "A rider found us when we were just babies and brought us back to the Weyr. I used to dream about actually finding our parents, but I don't think that will ever happen now." The green rider smiled. "I will make sure I let you know." She wasn't quite sure who he wanted her to meet, but she liked meeting new ones and if G'rett wanted to introduce her to someone then so be it. "Great. Maybe tomorrow I'll have some time to talk to her."
"Most definitely," she grinned. "Friends are there for each other. Thank you, G'rett." At least she didn't have to worry if Coth caught Elliwodth. They would figure things out and everything would be fine. The search rider slowly followed G'rett back to other shore.

G'rett merely nodded, sharing quiet laughter with Kiyoni while making his way back towards Coth and Elli. He was thankful to have a friend like her, and would do everything he could to maintain that relationship. Even if Coth did Fly Elli each time she Rose, and G'rett wound up sharing Kiyoni's bed as a result. It wouldn't be quite as painful nor would he have any serious regrets as a result. Still, he had made a promise to Quindara and wanted her as his weyrmate as soon as she became a Rider in her own right. G'rett suspected that things would work out between Arktos and Kiyoni, and those two would eventually become weyrmates. As much as anyone didn't like the idea of weyrmates sleeping with others, it was only tolerated as a result of a Flight. Somehow, G'rett would have to work it out with the Candidate Master and pray the man would be agreeable. On the other hand, he could only hope Quindara would be equally as agreeable to allow room for her weyrmate-to-be sleeping with Kiyoni should Coth win Elliwodth's Flight each time.
Only two others hadn't voted on the matter. The two dragons in question.
Coth looked over and bugled with joy when he saw G'rett and Kiyoni swim back in his direction. Took you long enough!. G'rett simply grinned and looked up at his lifemate, but when he mentally asked the question it took the Bronze a long time to consider.
Coth? If Elliwodth Rose...would you give Chase?
Coth looked over at Elliwodth for a moment, as if considering the Green before returning back to his bonded. I would, yes...but why do you ask me of this, my G'rett?
Would you give Chase to her every time she Rose? Do you think she would prefer you over the other males? I'm asking because there could be some rather complicated issues that may arise as a result of this. The Wingleader merely looked at Elli for a moment, then back at Coth. The dragon blinked a few times, slowly. Humans are so worried about who is with whom. G'rett thought he detected a bit of a sigh coming from Coth. But yes, I would give Chase to Elliwodth every time she Rises, and I would hope she would prefer me over the others. Shall I ask her?
G'rett nearly blurted out his answer, but managed to regain his composure. No, Coth, that's okay. Don't ask right now. Kiyoni thinks Elliwodth might be Rising soon, and I think it's best if we wait to find out the answer.
Coth tilted his head to the side for a moment before up-righting it, then did his best imitation of a nod. If you say so. But the Bronze turned to look at the smaller Green, and crooned softly at her, prompting G'rett to cover his face with the palm of his hand, embarrassed.

Kiyoni gladly followed G'rett back to the shore. She couldn't believe what a friend he had been. And she really really hoped that Coth would fly Elliwodth every time. It would be nice to not have to worry about a different partner each flight. She would definitely have to have a talk with her green later on. See if they could sort things. And she just might have to talk to Arktos too. She didn't want to upset him.
You're back! Elliwodth exclaimed, her tail twitching. Why did you take so long?
Sorry, Elli. G'rett and I were talking. We just lost track of time.
Elliwodth snorted. I like Coth. Is His nice too?
Kiyoni's face reddened at the question. She hadn't expected that at all. He is. She stared in disbelief and wished she could disappear when she heard Elliwodth return Coth's croon. This could get very awkward.

G'rett lowered his hand just in time to see Elliwodth return Coth's croon, and he shot a woeful glance at Kiyoni to see her face turn red and stare at the Green. He could only guess as to what conversation took place between the pair, but he had a pretty good idea. G'rett looked back at Coth and shook his head. Please tell me you just now didn't croon at Elliwodth. Please.
The Bronze merely blinked, as if feigning ignorance. I did. I'm only letting her know I think highly of her, and would be honored if she preferred me when she Rises each time. Is that such a bad thing?
G'rett could only glare at his lifemate. You have no idea what you and Elliwodth are about to put me, Kiyoni, and possibly Quindara and maybe Arktos through, Coth. No idea at all. Thanks. Thanks a lot.
Coth failed to comprehend the sarcasm in his bonded's thoughts, but merely blinked at him, his blue eyes whirling happily. You're welcome.[/color]

Kiyoni looked over at G'rett. She couldn't believe what was going on with their dragons. To her it seemed like they already had things figured out without taking hers and G'rett's feelings into consideration.
Why are you upset now? Coth is very handsome and strong. I like him. And you got along with His.
You just don't get it, Elli, Kiyoni whispered. She shook her head. There was no way to really make her green see what a mess it was they were getting into. Of course for all she knew someone else would fly Elliwodth and all this worrying would be nothing.
She looked back at G'rett, wondering he felt as out of control of things as she did.

G'rett saw Kiyoni give him a helpless look out of the corner of his eye, prompting him to let out a long sigh. Obviously, both Coth and Elli were thinking along the same lines...and that could potentially spell disaster for everyone involved. Well, for him and Kiyoni, anyway. G'rett was essentially promised to Quindara; Kiyoni was wanting to deepen her relationship with Arktos. That meant at least four peoples' lives were about to take a dramatic shift, but whether for better or for worse was anyone's guess. It also implied everyone else at Nova would be somehow impacted by a certain series of events: Elli Rising, Coth catching her and Flying her; Quindara's jealousy getting the better of her and word getting back to her brother, which meant Toniel and Cybele would be pulled into this mess; Arktos would either be furious or depressed, and that meant he'd be distracted enough for him to not properly handle the Candidates. All because a certain Green named Elliwodth and a Bronze named Coth were, if he could use the term, flirting with each other.
The Wingleader had to think things through, as muddled as his thoughts were at the moment. If Coth Flew Elli, he would be obligated to spend that night with Kiyoni. G'rett already promised the Searchrider if a child came about as a result, he would do everything he could to be a father to said child. If he knew Arktos like he thought he did, sooner or later the Candidate Master would want Kiyoni for his weyrmate...and that could lead to Kiyoni bearing his child as well. That didn't bother G'rett so much; he and Kiyoni were close friends and would remain so. Quindara would simply have to come to grips that the Searchrider wasn't intending on stealing her weyrmate-to-be away from her. If Elli chose Coth each time she Rose, no one could do anything about it or the aftermath that would result. Somehow, all four individuals would have to come to an agreement, and soon.
Somehow.
"Kiyoni," G'rett spoke softly, addressing the Searchrider. "When we return to the weyr, go find Quindara. I can be on hand if I have to to help try to smooth things over." He looked at her. "I'll need to find Arktos and warn him about the possible Flight, though he won't be able to leave. Neither will Quindara for that matter." He shot her a nervous smile. "Rough skies are ahead for all of us, I'm afraid. All we can do is hold on and pray we make it through. But what I said to you back there," he jerked a thumb behind him, "I meant every word. I'll always be here for you no matter what happens, and you'll always be a close friend and dear to my heart." He swam over to Kiyoni, and before giving her a chance to react he gently kissed her on the cheek, then squeezed her hand. "My father taught me to be a survivor, and if I have to take the lead on this, I'll do it. But it will take all of us to pull together."

Kiyoni sighed as she though about everything that could come from Elliwodth's next flight. Her world along with three others could be turned upside down so fast. How would she ever explain this to Arktos? And Quindara? Would the candidate be furious with her? She couldn't help the outcome of a flight, but that didn't make the repercussions any easier to deal with in her opinion. It could still leave a lot of people hurt and mad. She scrubbed her hands over her face in frustration.
She glanced over at Elliwodth. The green still seemed to be enjoying her conversation with Coth. Kiyoni shook her head. She couldn't change that. They would just have to deal with whatever came their way. Of course maybe they could get things smoothed out before hand. Just to be on the safe side. For all she knew Elliwodth would do a complete 360 and choose some random dragon.
Kiyoni quickly looked over at G'rett. She nodded. "I'll do my best to find her," she said quietly. "I'm sorry I've become such a pain. I never expected Elli to be such an open flirt even close to her flight." She smiled slightly. At least she didn't have to worry about G'rett. Just the other two. "And I'll be around if things go south with Arktos. Maybe I should try to talk to him too," she said softly. It looked like she was going to be busy for a while. Her eyes widened a little at his chaste kiss, but she smiled. "I thank you, G'rett. Maybe it won't end up coming to anything afterall. Elli could surprise us all."

G'rett simply shook his head. "You're not a pain, Kiyoni. And we all know dragons don't always think along the same lines as we do, in spite of our bond with them. Coth is no exception," he shot a cool look at the Bronze before returning his focus on the Searchrider. "It wouldn't hurt if you spoke with Arktos, either, but do so out of earshot of the Candidates."
He had to nod slowly, but was still unsure when it was said Elliwodth could shock everyone and pick a different dragon. "It's likely, but it never hurts to prepare for a worse-case scenario. Judging from the way these two are acting," he motioned at the dragons, "I'd be willing to bet several hundred marks Elli will choose Coth as her victor if she Rises before Chandrath does." As much as he hated saying those very words, the sinking feeling in his stomach was telling him his prediction would soon be proven correct.

She rolled her dark blue eyes. "You're right there. It seems like just when we think we know our dragons they surprise us." She sighed in frustration, but what could she do really? Kiyoni nodded. "I'll make sure I catch him when he's not with the candidates. The last thing I want to do is stir up even more trouble."
Kiyoni could see the doubt in G'rett's eyes and she had to admit that she agreed with him. She glanced back over at Elliwodth who was now even closer to Coth. "I'd say you're right," she agreed. "I have no doubt that she'll choose Coth." Although there was always slim possibility, but highly doubtful. Especialy when you watched the two dragons together. Kiyoni's heart sank. There was no getting out of it now. At least though it would be G'rett. They were good friends after all.
