Please note: After December 1st, new character slots must be paid for out of your marks. Visit the weyr shop for price details. New players get two free character slots.
1. The more detailed the better, especially if you want a rank. And avoid stereotypes if at all possible. Not every redhead has a bad temper.
2. Interesting troubled pasts are good. But not everyone has a trouble childhood. In fact, many people have quite nice childhoods and supportive parents. People who were extremely abused or traumatized would not be good Candidates for Impression either. Also, if you want to have an orphan or something like that, it would have to be a really good sheet.
3. On a similar note, if your character is injured or disabled in some way, they would probably not be eligible to Stand. So, no blind, deaf, paralyzed, missing a hand etc. etc. Candidates. If you want to have dragonrider blinded by Threadfalll or something like that, make a good sheet and it will be considered. Also, following from that line, most adult dragonriders have scars, so just keep that in mind.
4. Avoid perfect characters. We will not approve people like that. Everyone has flaws. On the same note, avoid people who are just total jerks with no redeeming qualities because no one is really like that. And no one wants to RP with a jerk all the time.
5. Pets: Canines, felines, flits, runners, and whers are available pets. Candidates may only have one pet, and any pet other than a flit will be sent to the Beastcrafters for care until the Candidate stands down or their weyrling training is complete. Dragonriders may have up to three pets, of any species except whers. All others may have five pets of any species with more pending approval by the BoD. Keep in mind that although dragonriders may have runners, runners do not like dragons and vice versa and they require a lot of care.
New characters may only be created with one blue, gray, green, or white firelizard. More or larger firelizards must be purchased with marks, which can be earned by posting, selling things in the weyr store, and by monthly salary according to character rank.
Side note on whers and flits. Flits Impress like dragons, and but they do not always go /between/ upon the deaths of their owners. They may go wild, and if neglected by their owners, may go wild while the owner is still living. When they go wild, they return to their nest site. Whers are available in the same colors as firelizards. They do not Impress, they Bond to someone by tasting their blood. Their names are take from the name of their master and end with sk. If their master dies, they can rebond to someone else. They are nocturnal and are only capable of flight in the thick night air.
7. Character Age: Candidates are between 12 and 25 for females, 10-21 for males.
Young dragonriders will not be able to fight until 16 or hold rank until 18, unless they happen to win a mating Flight that confers rank.
For crafters, apprenticeship usually starts at twelve but may be allowed for those between ages 10 and 20. Craftmasters in the weyr may accept even older apprentices on a case by case basis, usually for failed Candidates. Journeyman status is not awarded until age sixteen, or four years after apprenticeship, whichever comes later. Most do not earn journeyman's knots till eighteen. Senior journeyman are at least 25. Masters are at least 35 and Masters of an entire Craft are usually older than 40. These are general guidelines. More specific rules for each craft are in the posting relating to crafters.
8. Also, in case you weren't aware, Pern does not have artificial hair color, or elves, or magic, or aliens, or technology involving electricity. They do have tattoos and ear piercing..but only ears.
9. Please limit your number of twin/triplet characters to one. For some reason, everyone on Pern seems to be twins, which isn't very realistic.
10. Dragon size- length from nose to tail. Occasionally, a dragon may vary from theses sizes, but ask first before you make an unusually small or large dragon.
Golds- 40-45 feet
bronzes- 35-40 feet
browns- 30-35 feet
blues-25-30 feet
greens- 20-25 feet.
