Cheriss was tired of fighting Eponath. Both sides were stubborn, and neither was willing to leave the other be. A bit hard to leave someone alone when they shared a mind with you, now isn't it? It wasn't as if Eponath and Cheriss were a bad pair, but there were still a few barriers between them. Asking a tomboy to wear skirts wasn't a good idea, nor was asking a lady to get a bit dirty. Those petty troubles seemed to grow and fester, until eventually the red pair blew up in each other's minds.
After one such fight, Cheriss knew it wasn't healthy for them to remain this way. So after a talk with her brother, the chandler knew something had to be done. Anything would be better than fighting and bickering all the time like little children. In an effort to start working on their issues, Cheriss lead the small dark red to a lone corner of the main bowl for some alone time.
"Eponath, why do you think we bicker all the time? Are we that wrong for each other?" Cheriss asked as she plopped down noisily on a rock. "I mean why can't we see things eye to eye sometimes? Dragons and riders aren't meant to fight ya know..." Her words faltered as she scratched an eye ridge. Eponath nudged her rider gently, knowing the girl was trying to learn to work together. I'm not sure Cheriss. I don't want to fight with you. What do we fight about anyway? Silly small things.... Her own thoughts trailed off as Cheriss did something unexpected. In all of their short four months together Eponath had never seen her rider cry. Not even when the human girl had bruised her toe badly in a lesson....
Cheriss, there's no need to cry.... We'll figure something out....
