Pern has ended Thread for good. The dragonriders began searching for new ways to survive in a world that increasingly needed less from them, and in so doing, discovered an alternative to Pern: a bigger, lusher planet just beyond Pern that they named Cyadon. Colonists came, Holds and Weyrs were established, eventually Halls created their own centers on the new planet as well, and then they stopped communicating. Cyadon was left on its own, to function as best it can, and with room for everyone, they prospered. Now, however, things are changing. 150 Turns on Cyadon have passed, though the extra distance from Rukbat makes the real time lapse more like 300. Over the last few Turns, more eggs have been laid on the Hatching Sands than ever before, giving rise to the need to build a third Weyr to house all the dragons. Storms at sea have caused no end of trouble to the coasts and ships passing between the many islands of Cyadon, and more earthquakes have begun troubling people, especially in the mountains. Madmen have begun raving about the return of the Thread mentioned in old Teaching Ballads, and Starsmiths who have looked closely have discovered a red glint in the skies, rising up over Cyadon. But Thread has disappeared for good ... hasn’t it? Come find the answer. Come to Cyadon.
