It was just past the darkest mark of the night when Nova Weyr's dark cliffs became clear to the dark shapes of a man and wher and the brightness of a firelizard. The trio walked and flew quietly in the darkness, finally almost to their destination. Sanrev stopped and gazed at the Weyr's entrance for a long moment, his wher and firelizard stopping in tune, the bright blue of the miniature dragon landing atop the dark ridges of the wher. Why stop, Sanresk's? chimed the calm, bass sound of the tall wher's voice inside his handler's mind.
Sanrev smiled and turned to his awkward looking brown, reaching up a hand to rub at the top of the creature's head. Just taking in the scenery from the outside. This is our new home. he thought in return. After another moment of gazing at the Weyr's entrance while rubbing his wher's favorite spot, the Guardsman started onward again.
The firelizard took flight again, drifting quietly nearby his Pet and wher. As they passed through the entrance, only the firelizard was clearly visible to any eye, yet one had to look twice to pick handler and wher from the darkness. They stopped again several paces within the Weyr and Sanrev looked about at the quietness of civilization before dawn. He smiled at the comforting sound, glancing about for someone to speak to at this time of early morning.

The red brown head lifted off the much darker paws as Task's eyes began to whirl slightly faster. His handler, who was leaning with her back against one of the star stones, eyes closed, opened one eye to look at the bulky brown. What is it? she asked him. New person. 'Nother wher. Little dragon. he informed her. Dangerous? A threat? No think so. Task and Task's go meet? "You'll be lucky," Taja muttered aloud this time, opening her other eye and pushing herself off her stone back rest. She came to stand beside Task, who by this point had stood up and was watching with interest.
From wher she was stood, she was above the trio and had a good enough vantage point. Her eyes were used to the dark and so she didn't find it too difficult to pick out the tall man and his wher. It was easy to pick out the bright blue hide of the firelizard. Both Taja and Task watched as Sanrev and his wher made their way around the bowl, lurking in the shadows of wher they were whilst Taja tried to decide what the three were doing here. Indeed they didn't look like they were threatening, but you couldn't be too careful. Then she remembered vaguely that they were expecting a new handler pair. Not that she'd paid much attention though. Might be an idea to go check that this was them then.
Task didn't need telling, and started to sure-footedly pick his way down. Taja followed after him, grumbling about the thought of having to possibly be social towards someone. Task trotted along still in front, leading the way. The two stopped not far off from Sanrev and Sanresk, making sure that there was enough distance between them in case Sanrev was actually hostile. "Hey!" she called out, resting a hand on Task's muscular shoulders. "Who are you? Whatcha doing here?" Task bristled slight, as he was supposed to, and eyed up the taller brown.

Sanresk had sensed the other brown and had alerted his Bonded as he zeroed in on the movement in the darkness of pre-dawn. Other brown comes. The gaunt-looking brown said as he stepped in front of Sanrev in his usual protective fashion, head slightly lowered to eye up the approaching wher.
It did not help Sanrev any with the brown being taller than most and so his hand rested on the ridges of the dark creature's back, Neek circling the pair, knowing that Sanresk was in his usual mood when it came to meeting new folk. Dark green eyes watching as the pair came closer, Sanrev waited until earshot was reached before speaking, though the other Handler beat him to it. "I am Senior Journeyman Guard Sanrev, reporting for duty with my wher," he answered her without much pause, voice clear enough in the quiet of the morning to carry decently.
He knew of the Weyr's security since Cloudlung first ravaged the Pern they all now knew. Just like Firehead, Cloudlung seemed the sort to linger about as just another cold like pneumonia and flus. He could thank his brother for that particular knowledge.
Sanresk growled softly before speaking to the other wher. I Sanresk. Sanresk's here for duty. he told the other, just a hint of aggression toward the other wher. He was not the most friendly of whers, but he was much more tolerant once he knew another was on his side and not against him.
Neek trilled softly at the newcomers, keeping his circling of caution until he knew from his Pet that all was well.

Task pulled back a lip in a silent growl when he himself was threatened. He didn't like being threatened exactly, and what with this being an unknown brown and all that, one could never be too careful. Taja meanwhile, ignored her wher for the moment as she scanned this new person up and down, weighing him up. She quickly deduced that she didn't want him to be a threat because she really didn't like the thought of having try and defend herself against him, even with Task. He was tall, a fair bit taller than her and muscled. She knew she herself was string, but in comparison to him? Yeah, she'd just try and not get into a fight with him.
Though it was evident that she likely wasn't going to need to. Guard eh? Well, he looked the part. Must be the new guy then, so Taja relaxed a little. She tapped Task on the shoulder with a finger, then spoke to him. S'alright Task, they're the new handlers. You can stop bristling now. Task obliged, loosening his posture a little, but neither he nor his handler fully relaxed. Could never drop your guard fully, and Taja with her cynicism wasn't one to fully trust something straight away. Which was great when you were meant to keep out unwanted people, not so when it came to greeting new people. Not that she did a lot of greeting new people. "Jr. Journeywoman Tanner Taja. So, you're the new guys." She scanned Sanrev again, hazel eyes piercing. If she actually cared she'd probably consider him good looking, though really she wanted nothing to do with the opposite gender. Actually, she wanted nothing to do with people at all really. At least she wasn't sexist. I Task. was her brown's only response to Sanresk. He wasn't a huge one for talking but his tone was polite enough. It could also be imagined that the two had switched tones, seeing as Taja had practically growled at Sanrev, not uncommon for her, and Task sounded the more civil of the two. Which was probably quite accurate.
There was silence for a moment. Task and Task's show Sanresk and Sanresk's rooms? Near light, eyes hurt soon. the wher asked His, not expecting her to offer without prompting. I guess. "Getting light. You'll be after where you're to stay no doubt? Or you been told already?"

Sanrev did not size up the other handler as much as she had him. He saw no point in sizing others up unless he was going to need to defend himself against them. She looked to be the current night watch on duty and so, he presumed that she would not be likely to attack himself, Sanrev, or Neek.
In response to the other brown standing down, Sanresk stood down as well, oddly shaped head raising to a higher level in acceptance of the other brown and tall body melding into its length versus its full height, allowing more of Sanrev to be seen next to him. Like his handler, he still held a slight air of caution, but that was just a wher's nature when not around the family they were raised from.
Sanrev nodded in the darkness, voice dropping to a lower level since he felt no reason to speak louder than normal, only clearer. Unlike his wher, his caution was constant, having been something that had been drilled into him since his first days as an apprentice guardsman. "Yes, we're new. Answerin' the call for a night watchman," he answered calmly, not a hint of aggression in his voice. The bright blue of his firelizard circled slower before dropping to a landing atop the dark ridges of the gaunt wher about the middle of his back. There, the creature eyed the other pair curiously, crooning softly in contentedness.
Sanrev offered a smile of friendship to the sourly handler, as he had decided she should be referenced as at the moment. "We would appreciate that greatly, miss Taja. If you wouldn't mind directing me toward the Weyrwoman's office afterward, I'd kindly thank you," he answered her pleasantly, showing his notion of possible friendship if they were going to be working together.
Sanresk stood quietly, not allowing himself to be distracted by his bright colored pet as he was on duty at the moment. Later on would be a completely different story.
