Kia had been feeling odd for the past few days. For one thing, her appetite was all off kilter. Sometimes she felt unbearable full hours after eating, and other times she couldn't stop stuffing herself. She also had a headache that would not go away. Most troublesome of all, she was due for her monthly, but Auntie Flo had yet to make an appearance. That happened sometimes with riders, because of going between, but with all the other symptoms she was feeling? This couldn't be good.
Or was it? Kia had wanted a child very badly once, with Jefyr. Now, she wasn't sure. It was hard to raise a child while you were a dragon rider, plus she would have to be out of commission right after graduating. Not to mention that she wasn't entirely happy with how this child had been conceived. The truth was, though, riders didn't conceive that easily when they got older. This could be her only chance.
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself... she thought, shaking her head. It could just be the flu. She walked into the infirmary, wondering who would be on duty.

Tesni had just finished bandaging someone's hand. They'd cut themselves fairly badly in the kitchen, and it had needed stitched. Just as she walked out of the examining room, she saw an older weyrling, a female bluerider like herself, walk in with a worried expression.
"Good morning Kia," she said brightly. "What can I do for you today?" The girl looked fairly healthy, if a little pale. There'd been a stomach virus going around, perhaps she had a little touch of that.

C'olt was busy tending to another patient when he overheard Tesni greet Kia. He ducked his head from behind the curtain which cordoned off one of the exam rooms, and paled when he caught sight of her worried expression. Shards. It was just over a sevenday earlier that Lyrensa was reported to have a case of nausea, and now Kia was here and Tesni was looking her over.
It never quite fully dawned on the blond-haired Healer that his fellow Weyrlings were carrying his child as a result of the night of the Hatching Feast. Although if Tess caught wind of it, she'd surely go to the Leadership to report her findings. That wouldn't go well for the Journeyman Healer, but there would be one benefit: the creche just happened to be very close to the Infirmary...and C'olt had been spending some of his free time with the children...

Tess was sitting off to one side, reading up on obstetrics and keeping an eye on things. She hadn’t really had the chance to sit down and get to know each of the Healers working under her, but she’d at least memorized their files. Personal interviews were on her to-do list.
She shifted a little and looked up as a new patient stepped in. A little frazzled, perhaps, but no obvious sign of injury, no coughing… Tess started to set her studies aside but someone else stepped forward to greet the newcomer. Tesni, wasn’t it? Journeyman Healer, specialized in pharmacology, bluerider. Just finished tending a nasty knife wound – Tess glanced over to the that patient and surveyed the stitch from where she was. Well done. She glanced back to Tesni, quietly watching her welcome the next patient – excellent mannerism. Tess smiled a bit, immensely pleased with her staff, and turned back to her reading. She made a note to address Tesni later with a positive report (not that Tesk would let her forget).
A movement to the left caught her attention, though, and she glanced up a second time. C’olt. Junior Journeyman, specialty field work, green weyrling. Looking a little pale… Tess arched an eyebrow and called out softly to the young Journeyman, “Problem, C’olt?”

"Problem, C'olt?"
C'olt turned to look in the direction of Tess, and his jaw dropped when he caught sight of the Weyrhealer looking at him, eyebrow arched. "Uhh...." he started. "Nothing! No, nothing at all...just this is the second patient in the last sevenday who's reported a touch of the flu." He quickly tried to cover his surprise, even flashing Tess a smile, but he knew she'd see right through his facade. Shards. This wasn't going to go over so well...
He sighed then hung his head. There was no point in trying to lie to the Weyrhealer. "Weyrhealer, can we meet in your office or in your private quarters? There's something I need to discuss with you..."

Oh the flu, was it? Tess entertained the idea only briefly enough to properly dismiss it. She’d file it away as a possibility, of course, but she really didn’t think this was a flu strain. Her expression didn’t change throughout C’olt’s flustering, but she smiled approvingly when he requested a private audience. Indeed. Setting her things aside, she stood smoothly and spoke with her usual air of etiquette.
“Of course, C’olt. If you’ve finished with your current patient,” she gave the curtained section a pointed look, “then I will gladly meet with you. Unless, of course, you feel you need to assist Journeyman Tesni.” She arched her eyebrow at him again, but softened the expression with a humoring smile and turned towards her office.

C'olt simply shook his head as he ducked back inside to finish dressing his patient's wound. He really didn't want to come face-to-face with Kia right now. Perhaps later, but then he'd likely have to have the same chat with Lyrensa. Shards, he was going to regret having spent the night with both ladies after the Hatching Feast. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't hurt being involved with Kia and Lyrensa both at the same time. He was talented enough, wasn't he?

Kia smiled at Tesni when she appeared. She didn't know the other woman well, but felt an affinity with her fellow female Blue rider nonetheless. She saw C'olt poke his head around the curtain, but she pretended not to notice him and kept her attention on Tesni.
"I've been having a lot of symptoms lately," Kia said, taking a seat. "Nausea and headaches are the biggest things. Oh, and I haven't gotten my period this month," she explained.
