Jaysen couldn't help but stare at Calyssa, and quickly had to force himself to blink several times to snap out of his reverie. Careful, old boy. You're quickly falling head over heels for this one, and you've barely known her for not quite a sevenday or so. No need to rush. Still, it was difficult to keep a warm smile from coming to his lips as he helped Calyssa to a sitting position, her face red from embarrassment. "Aye, 'tis a beautiful place indeed. Surrounded by nothing but the deep blue sea. I found Misty one morning while scaling the hills on the lee of the isle, newly hatched from her shell." At the mention of her name, the queen firelizard trilled happily. "Oh sure, there's firelizard eggs a-plenty, but the real treasure is the vast gems that are often found just below the surface and hidden all over the sands." Jaysen didn't want to give away what he wanted to give Calyssa, but he had a fair idea. It would take some doing, though, but thankfully Jaysen's father was a well-known and respected man in the community.
"I don't know if we'll be allowed to sit next to each other at the upcoming Hatching Feast...but I'd like to sit next to you. If you don't mind, that is." He looked at Calyssa, his expression suggesting he would be honored yet was nervous. He sincerely hoped she would agree to it.

Calyssa got re-situated on her seat before she looked back up at Jaysen. Her face reddened again. What's wrong with me? I don't even know him that well yet. She sighed softly. He reminded her so much of Bradan and yet he was uniquely different she liked that. "Really? There's that many eggs around Azure Isle?" she asked curiously. She had no idea where Bradan had found Storm's egg. She studied him for a minute, trying to gauge what he had planned. She didn't know him well enough yet to guess. "Oh, it sounds beautiful there," she said with a smile. Maybe someday she'd be able to visit there. Maybe after she had her own dragon.
The teen looked up at him, her blue eyes dancing as her blonde hair fell into her eyes. "I would like that," she said happily. "As long as they don't assign us spots I would love to have you sit next to me." She hoped she hadn't sounded too over excited there. She didn't want to scare him away after all.

"Quite a few eggs, actually," Jaysen answered. "Where'd you get Storm?" The young sailor looked at the bronze firelizard, then back at Calyssa, his eyes full of curiosity. Then his expression changed to that of pride when the girl commented again on how beautiful his home was. "I think I mentioned to you at one point my family would be coming for the Hatching. I'm sure my father will enjoy sharing some of the stories involving my various trips with him and his crew. At my expense." He had to blush. Jaylen had always been proud of his son - this Jaysen knew - but the last time the young man had any type of relationship with a girl, his father was always trying to get him to blush over some of the mishaps he'd endured. Ah well.
He grinned when Calyssa accepted his offer to be seated next to her at the Hatching. Taking up the oars again, he started to pull on them, steering the canoe out closer to the middle of the lake. He glanced up to gauge Rukbat's position in the sky. Roughly two candlemarks left before they would have to return to shore. "Do you like to swim?" Jaysen was curious.

"wow! That would be neat." The girl glanced over at Storm who was still perched on the canoe with Misty. "Bradan gave me his egg. I'm not really sure where he managed to find a firelizard egg," she said, turning back to Jaysen. She had never had the chance to ask the young man where Storm's egg had come from. But she refused to dwell on that for the moment. "Really? I would love to hear some stories," she smiled. Calyssa giggled. "Trust me, I'm sure my father could tell some embarrassing stories on me too." She wasn't sure what Caltex would think of Jaysen, but she was pretty sure he'd like the young sailor. She knew she did.
Calyssa settled back in her seat when Jaysen started rowing again. It was nice to be back in a boat again. Despite her loss because of one. She turned her sparkling blue eyes back to him. "I do actually," she smiled. "Sertex and I would swim in the river as much as we could."

Jaysen said nothing when Calyssa mentioned Bradan's name. Must've been a close friend of hers at one point, and therefore holds a special place in her heart. Not that I could ever take his place. But perhaps if I could help her heal that pain... But he kept his face neutral, until Calyssa suggested she would love to hear his father's stories...and her own father could tell some stories about her as well. He grinned. "I figure between your father and mine, neither of us would stand a chance."
He continued rowing, when her eyes met his. So, she loved to swim?
Misty didn't appreciate the fact she was being ignored by her pet. But with Storm nearby...the queen firelizard crooned softly at him, then rubbed his neck affectionately before trilling and diving into the water. Jaysen turned to look, nearly dropping the oars in surprise. He could feel a rather unusual sensation course through his veins just now. A stirring. A longing. He'd never seen Misty Rise; he figured she was still too young. But there was no denying that feeling. Setting the oars down, he winked at Calyssa. "Let's just see how well you can swim." With that, he stood up and dove over the side of the canoe into the water with a minimal splash.

Calyssa quickly got her emotions under control. She wasn't about to lose it in front of Jaysen. Her brother had been the only one to see her cry over Bradan's death. She hadn't wanted her father worrying, so she made sure he never knew. And I think I'm finally ready to move on. Make new friends. She glanced at Jaysen. And maybe more. She laughed at his words. "Yes, I think we're both done for with both of our fathers there," she agreed with a grin. She could only imagine the embarrassing stories her father would come up with.
Storm crooned happily and nuzzled Misty back. The bronze watched the gold, flapping his wings slightly. He quickly followed Misty into the water, not wanting to lose her.
Calyssa was confused by her bronze's actions. Storm had never acted that way with other firelizards before. Of course he was only a little over a Turn old, so she didn't know a whole lot about flights yet. She quickly turned back to Jaysen, her face a bit red. "What? Now?" Before she could get any other argument out Jaysen had already dove over board. The girl shook her head with a chuckle. Apparently there was no getting out of it now. She quickly followed him into the water, the water feeling good and refreshing.

It took Jaysen a few minutes to become acclimated to the water. It was cold, but not overly so. Hypothermia would not be a danger for him, especially with how warm it had been above the surface of the water. Opening his eyes, he could see the bottom of the lake roughly several hundred meters below, but that wasn't willing to dive that deep. No, he'd settle for remaining near the canoe. Sparing a glance over his shoulder, he could see Misty flirt with Storm. His queen had practically inspired this sudden rush of emotions, and twisting his body he could now see Calyssa dive in.
There was no denying the fact he liked Calyssa. Yet in spite of his wanting to keep himself pure just for her, he felt as if he wanted to stake his claim early on the young beastherder long before anyone else could. He still had enough air in his lungs, but Jaysen wasn't sure just how long his new friend could remain underwater. Halting his dive, he shifted his body and waited until Calyssa came close enough for him to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her tightly to him. Pushing aside some of her hair that seemed to float freely, he smiled warmly at her and met her lips with his, closing his eyes as he did so.

Calyssa came back to the surface smiling. It felt good to be in the water again. Cold or not she didn't care. The river she and Sertex always swam in was a bit chilly anyhow, so this wasn't any different. Although normally she wasn't fully clothed when she went swimming. Oh well, it was worth it. She glanced back over at Storm. The little bronze was enjoying Misty's attention and crooning happily. He nuzzled her shoulder again affectionately. Calyssa shook her head. She was definitely a bit confused.
The candidate then looked around for Jaysen. She smiled when she realized he hadn't gone far. This seemed like a perfect day to her. Her blue eyes were sparkling as she watched the sailor in front of her. She had to admit it, she liked him. A lot. Calyssa didn't realize she had moved closer to him until he wrapped his arms around her. The young woman's eyes widened when he kissed her, but she didn't pull away. Instead she leaned into him.

Jaysen had kissed young women before, but never quite like this. Nor had he ever felt so strongly about anyone until now. Misty returned Storm's affections, then rose to the surface, her tail enticing the Bronze firelizard to follow her up top. Jaysen held onto Calyssa tightly, his lips pressed against hers, the feel of her body against his sending a chill down his spine. But he knew his lungs wouldn't remain full of air forever. Breaking off his kiss and still holding on to her with one arm, Jaysen broke for the surface, his legs kicking as hard as he could to bring him and Calyssa to safety.
He had to gasp for a moment to rapidly fill his lungs back up, then looked at Calyssa with wide eyes. "I...I don't know what came over me," he said softly, after catching his breath. "I apologize if I took advantage of you, but...Calyssa...I don't know how else to say this. I don't know if it's just me or if it's the way Misty is acting. But I think I'm falling for you."

Calyssa had never kissed anyone before. She had still been young when she had liked Bradan and then she had lost him. But she was sure she wouldn't feel this way about anyone else. Tingles ran down her body as she wrapped her arms around him, not caring that they were still under water. She wished the kiss could have gone on longer. Storm looked over and quickly followed Misty to the surface. The bronze wasn't going to let her out of his sight.
The candidate coughed a little when they reached the surface. She had stayed under a bit longer then she normally did. Calyssa shook her head as she shakily touched her lips. "You didn't," she whispered. She could have found a way to get away if she had wanted to. "I-I think I'm falling for you too," she said slowly.

Jaysen gave a nervous chuckle followed by an equally nervous smile. At least he wasn't in trouble with Calyssa, and he now knew she was starting to feel the same way about him. Misty jumped out of the water and landed on the side of the canoe, shaking herself this way and that to dry herself off. Turning to look, the queen flit crooned at her pet and at Calyssa. It was nice to know they were finally getting along!
Jaysen glanced up and noticed it was getting close to evening, based by the tinge of orange on the horizon. That meant Rukbat was slowly starting to set, and the afternoon lessons would soon draw to a close. He sneaked in one last kiss from Calyssa, then went to lift her by the hips to help her get back onto the craft. "We'll need to head back before the drum tower sounds. As soon as I tie her to the docks, I'll walk you back to the barracks so you can change. I'll sit next to you at the evening meal." He then lifted himself over the side, and waited for Calyssa to settle before picking up the oars.

Calyssa's face was still a bit red. She had never expected that when she had agreed to going on the lake with Jaysen. Not that she minded. She had actually enjoyed it. But she figured she better not tell Sertex. At least not at the moment. That may not be a good thing. Storm landed beside Misty and chittered happily. He watched his Pet and Jaysen with inquisitive eyes.
She glanced up at the sky, wishing it wasn't so late already. her face flushed again when he stole the kiss. She was definitely starting to like Jaysen a lot. Calyssa let him help her back into the canoe. "Okay," she said. "Then I'll meet you at the Dining Cavern for some food," she agreed happily. She wanted to spend a bit more time with him. She quickly got situated so Jaysen could row again.

Jaysen pulled hard on the oars, guiding him and Calyssa back to shore. His heart was now knit to this young woman, and he'd be damned if anything were to happen to her. Still, he wasn't going to push the limits. He knew Candidates were allowed to have relationships, but Jaysen wanted to wait until after he and Calyssa both were Riders before he'd even consider sleeping with her. I can't wait until Mother, Father, and Madilyn meet Calyssa at the upcoming Hatching feast. He had to smile warmly at the thought. At least another eighteen months to two full turns, and that's when I'll ask her if she'll be my weyrmate after I've won her dragon's maiden Flight. Jaysen then turned to Misty, whom was trilling happily with Storm nearby. Of course, if Misty Rises before then, and if Storm manages to catch her, I just might have to ask the question a bit sooner.
The current helped push the canoe back towards shore, and as it grew closer to the docks Jaysen let the craft drift freely, pulling his shirt back on, followed by his boots. Setting the oars down, he reached out and grabbed hold of the pier, then stood up and leaped out onto the platform, quickly lashing down the tiny boat so it wouldn't drift away. Once he secured the line, he held out a hand for Calyssa to grab on to help her up. Misty chittered excitedly, then flittered about and landed on her pet's shoulder, encouraging Storm and his pet to come ashore.

Calyssa absently watched Jaysen as she ran her fingertips through the warm water. She couldn't believe how happy she felt. Her father would never believe it when she told him. She just hoped that Caltex and Sertex would be nice. She missed her mother terribly though. She'd never get to introduce Jaysen to her. Oh, well. I can't change that. I'm just glad I found him or the other way around. If she really thought about it she had Storm to thank for their meeting. But she wasn't about to let the little bronze know that. Storm trilled happily as he spread his wings in the wind. He looked back at Misty with a croon.
The candidate chuckled as Jaysen gracefully stopped the canoe and jumped onto the pier. She knew for a fact that she would have fallen back into the water. "Thank you kindly, sir," she grinned as he helped her out of the canoe. Storm flitted to her shoulder and crooned happily.

Jaysen returned Calyssa's grin, then offered her his arm so he could escort her back to the barracks. "You're quite welcome, m'lady," he winked at her. Jaysen turned his head to the side and waved at Kiyoni, giving the Searchrider a friendly smile before turning his attention back to Calyssa. "So tell me, is there anything in particular I should wear so our outfits complement each other for this evening?"
Misty settled in, her blue eyes whirling happily. She started to trill a tune she and her pet often whistled when they went sailing together, and soon after Jaysen started to join in, escorting his new best friend and lady back towards the barracks.
