While the Healers had cleared her from the infirmary a few days ago, Cheriss still wasn't the same bouncy girl she had been a month ago. Her father's illness had led to her own bout with a cold. While the cold hadn't been as life-threatening, there had been times that the chandler rider wished it had been. Battling the illness had taken every scrap of strength the scrappy tomboy had stored up. Her fever had broken almost a week ago now, but the weight-loss and other effects of a severe cold clung to her. The weakness that she had shown during those weeks still brought a shameful flush to Cheriss's cheeks as she went in for check-ups.
Today's check-up had been the same as two days ago. Keep drinking fluids, rest when she can, and stay out of the rain. Oh and stop stressing. That was the biggest one. But how can someone expect her to stop stressing? Her father lay dying, her status as a rider was being questioned, and she was weaker than a newborn. What's not to stress about? When the healers allowed the girl to leave, Cheriss made a break for the dining hall. Some warm broth sounded like a very good idea and she was very glad that the healers had suggested it.
So after grabbing a full bowl and a slab of bread, Cheriss tried to find an empty spot. Unfortunately everywhere she looked was full of friends and families. Even though she wasn't contagious any more, Cheriss couldn't risk getting any one else sick. But where could she sit? Her bowl and bread -while not heavy- were taking their toll. Shifting her weight on her feet, Cheriss scanned the room again for a friendly face.

S'tex had come to the Dining Cavern to grab a quick bite to eat. He had been worried about his sister after her miscarriage, but J'sen was constantly around so there wasn't much he could do for her. Just be there if she needed to talk. Although today he just kind of wanted to forget and be with some of his friends.
He had found a table that wasn't totally full and sat down to eat. Before he could start though he caught sight of someone he hadn't seen in a while. The bronze weryling got to his feet and walked over to her.
"Cheriss?" he asked gently, taking the tray that looked like it was getting heavy. "It's good to see you," he said, giving her a smile.

When Cheriss's grey-gaze came across S'tex, she couldn't help the grin. She knew things weren't all right in his family either, but perhaps for a little bit they could forget about their worries. Now that sounded like a wonderful idea. Her small smile grew as he came closer until it lent her dull eyes a sparkle they had been lacking the past few weeks. His small guesture touched her more than she could tell him but she tried anyway, "Hey S'tex. It's good to see you too. Sorry we've been away so long.... But thanks too for taking my tray. Is there somewhere we can sit down?" She asked as she glanced back at the tables.

S'tex was glad to see a smile on her face. She looked a bit pale and thin to him, but he had heard that she had been sick. He had wanted to help her, but he hadn't been allowed. It was great to see her smile again though. "Hey and you're welcome." Hopefully being with his friend would help them both relax for a bit. Thankfully Belenoth was sleeping so he didn't have to worry about his hyper active for a bit. "We could go back to my table. There were still a few places open," he suggested, holding his free arm out to her.

Her smile grew, lending her cheeks a slight bit of much needed color as she realized just how much she had missed her friends. One in particular seemed to have missed her in return, which flushed her cheeks even more. Grateful for something else to think about, Cheriss nodded slowly. Maybe after she ate something, this flutter in her stomach would stop. It wouldn't do for her to become sick again. Not with so much at stake. Taking S'tex's free hand, Cheriss idly wondered how close was too close with a good friend like him. If her brother was in a situation like this, he would probably be close enough to suggest things, but for Cheriss... Well she was a friendly girl to be certain, but she had defined limits.
Clearing her throat, Cheriss tried to stop such a track of thought. It wasn't becoming of a lady rider... What where did that thought come from? Was Eponath finally rubbing off on her tomboy rider? A soft smile crossed the brunette's face as she realized that her Red just might be doing that. After all things between them were much better since her last talk with S'tex and after the fever of her illness. "That sounds like a lovely idea, S'tex. Can you show me where?"

S'tex smiled at her as she took his hand. He had missed her and spending time with her. He couldn't believe how much he really wanted to be around her. Of course if he thought about it, she was fun and witty and he definitely liked having her as a friend. He was afraid to explore his feelings any deeper. He felt he was too young to want to be with anyone, but he also knew his dragon would be chasing soon. And besides, his sister had J'sen and had been pregnant. Although he tried not to think about that since she had lost the baby. He would concentrate on Cheriss. He liked that much better.
The bronze rider nodded. "Of course. Right this way," he said, leading her through the crowd until he reached the table he had just left. He set the tray down then pulled a chair out for Cheriss. "There you go," he said, sitting beside her. "How is Eponath doing?" he asked.

Cheriss tried to hide a smile as he led her through the crowd. She may have managed to keep it from her lips but there was no way she could keep it from shining in her eyes. It had been far too long since someone had treated her like a lady. Not since Myrna had tried to teach her... before the Cloud-Lung took her step-mother away. That small thought creased her brow for a moment with the sad memories that clung to it, but the sadness didn't last long. S'tex's kind ways brought another smile to her face as he held the chair out for her. Beaming softly at him, she took the offered seat and waited for him to join her.
"My thanks again, S'tex. You keep this up and you'll end up spoiling a girl one day," She teased with a slight blush staining her cheeks. "Eponath? Well for a while things were bad when we found out Father was ill. I'm afraid I pushed her away for a while. But when I fell sick myself... Well Eponath was one of the reasons I hung on. I don't ever want to put her through that again, you know? It scared us both. Our bond is better than it ever was because of that..." She said softly, almost as if she was afraid it wouldn't be true if she spoke of it aloud. Clearing her throat, she tried to change the topic slightly, focusing on something other than herself and Eponath, "How's Belenoth? He seemed perky as usual at the lesson yesterday."

S'tex grinned. He could see her eyes twinkling and he was glad for that. It appeared that she was feeling a bit better anyhow. She was his best friend and he hated seeing her sick or upset. He did notice a twinge of sorrow in her eyes though and he wondered what that was about. He decided not to push it though. He didn't want to bring up any other bad memories.
"You're very welcome." The bronze weyrling grinned as he sat down. "Did I forget to mention that I like spoiling my friends?" he asked cheerily. Well, one friend in particular anyhow. He nodded. It was different getting used to having a dragon in your head at all times. "I'm glad to hear things are better for the two of you and I'm glad you're feeling better." The teen rolled his eyes. "Oh, Belenoth is good. Just as jittery and anxious as ever," he chuckled.
