Katleya slipped down to the weyrling barracks. She had heard through the grapevine that D'mar's sister had been sick and she wanted to see how the green rider was. She enjoyed being around D'mar, the two of them had just been so busy that she hadn't had a chance to really get a chance to see him.
She waited quietly in the Bowl, wondering if D'mar would come out. She knew she couldn't go into his side of the Barracks. If all else failed she'd have Azariaith contact Sionnth and send D'mar out.

D'mar had found it hard to sleep since the news of his father's declining health had reached them that evening. He knew there was little to nothing he could do to help, but it didn't stop him from worrying. Cheriss and their father were the only family he had left. Well save Sionnth of course. But the inquisitive green was more like his second half than just a family member. So as the green slumbered on her couch, D'mar found it was time to take a stroll in the night air. Sure it was late, but who would bother him? D'mar was no body important. Just a cook who had the luck to Impress a beauty of a green.
So holding his boots in one hand, D'mar slipped out into the night. Once out of ear-shot of the sleeping weyrlings, D'mar stooped to put on his boots. In the shadows he could barely make out a form, a female form unless his mind was playing tricks on him. Worried, and more than a bit curious as to who would be awake on a night like this D'mar called out, "Now Cheriss, if you couldn't sleep why didn't you tell me you where there instead of giving me scare?" Of course if it wasn't his sister, then... well D'mar had played the part of a fool before. Who knows maybe he might actually have a reason to smile about the whole deal.

Katleya stood quietly in the shadows. She wasn't even sure if D'mar would come out. But she didn't want to get herself or anyone else in trouble. She would just have to take her chances. The young woman's eyes lit up when she saw a figure creep out of the barracks. She would know that shadows anywhere. For once things had actually paid off for her.
The blue rider giggled softly when D'mar mistook her for his sister. "I'm not Cheriss, D'mar," she said, stepping out of the shadows. A smile played across her young face as she stepped over to the weyrling who she had taken a liking to.

D'mar knew he had screwed up big time as the giggle came from the dark. Oh shards. If he could have slapped his head in frustration without being seen he would have. Great now he looked like a fool in front of her. Why was Katleya here? Didn't she have other things to do? Better things than scaring poor guys like him? It was then that D'mar realized he was smiling. Something he hadn't done in earnest since his father's first letter. His grin grew as he realized he could spin this encounter out longer. That is if he continued playing the fool. For Katleya? Not a problem.
"If it's not Cheriss than is it Calyssa?" He asked, cocking his dark head to the side as if he was trying to get a better look.

Katleya couldn't help but smile. She could tell that she had caught him by surprise. Well, she didn't mind. She hadn't seen him in a while and she had wanted to see how he was doing. Besides, he was extremely good company and she definitely wanted to get to know him better. She shifted into the light better.
"No, now you're just guessing," she laughed, knowing he was playing. Of course that didn't bother her at all. She liked the idea of him teasing her and vice a versa.

D'mar's grin didn't fade one watt as Katleya stepped into the light. If anything it grew again. Yes it was good to see his friend again and forget his worries. But why was Katleya here? Had she heard something? "So it's you, Katleya," He teased with a twinkle in his eyes. "What brings you to the weyrling bowl? Expecting someone for a midnight meeting?" He asked tone full of mischief. Now D'mar knew something was up. Well with him anyway, teasing and stuff like that was more Cheriss's thing. Oh D'mar could flirt alright, but this bubble of happiness in his chest was more than a flirty teasing. What exactly was going on here? Taking a few steps closer to his friend, D'mar tried to halt that train of thought. It wouldn't do to have such ideas running around his head with such a quizzical dragon sharing it."Or were you expecting me?"

Katleya's dark eyes sparkled in the dim light. She loved seeing how D'mar's face lit up when he smiled. And she secretly hoped that smile was just for her. "Who else would it be?" she asked teasingly. Of course it wasn't like her to come down to the Weyrling Bowl. At least not in the middle of the night. She really should be in bed. But seeing D'mar sounded so much better. Although she had to put a quick halt on the way her thoughts were going. Since their time together she had wanted to get to know him better. And if she was honest, she hoped Azariaith would fly his lovely Sionnth when she rose her first time. The blue rider grinned. "Nope, no secret meeting," she assured him, watching his reaction. "Actually, I was waiting for you," she admitted, stepping up to him.

When Katleya asked who else would it be, D'mar shrugged and suggested, "Not sure... a Weyrling perhaps?" Again when she assured him that there was no secret meeting, D'mar tried to batten down the bubble of hope in his chest. Seriously this was getting out of hand. What was going on? He remembered in a flash their encounter in the kitchens a few months back and wondered why that memory was popping up now. As a weyrling himself, D'mar wasn't supposed to encourage encounters like that, so why was he out here tonight? Why hadn't he sent Katleya back to her weyr by now?
But as the blue rider stepped closer and confessed she was here for him, that thrice damned bubbled came back. This time it was impossible to stop the cheesy grin on his face. A blush followed shortly behind the grin, making D'mar glad the glows didn't give off much light. Now what was a guy supposed to about a confession like that? Lifting a foot to scratch a sudden itch on his left leg, D'mar tried to come up with something witty to say. Sadly D'mar couldn't come up with anything witty. Nor did it come out quite the way as it sounded in his head, "Really now. Why's that, Katleya? Did you miss me or somethin'?"

Katleya laughed a bit nervously. "Yes, that's true," she agreed. Really no one but the watch rider and the wher handlers were usually up at this time. And really she shouldn't have come here, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to see D'mar again. Even when she just thought about him her heart fluttered. And she couldn't get their encounter in the kitchen out of her mind. Not that she minded though. She had truly enjoyed that.
The blue rider glanced up at D'mar. Her green eyes held uncertainty as she watched him. Was he upset that she was there? No, surely not. She was pretty sure she saw a smile on his handsome face. So, she hadn't just assumed something that wasn't true? Katleya's face flushed and she was glad that he couldn't see. "Actually, I did miss you," she said softly, not sure how he would react to that.

Safe with in his mind for the moment, D'mar cursed the night. The dark seemed to swallow up any of the light the glows emitted, making it hard for him to see. What was Katleya thinking? Was her thoughts mirroring his own? Or was she thinking about something completely different? This not knowing, the not seeing her clearly was starting to get annoying. Seriously annoying. How could he solve his dilemma? What could he do to shed more light on things?
Wait... Did she just say she missed him? Back tracking in his head, D'mar tried to figure out what exactly had happened that day. He knew that Chandrath had Risen, that he had felt the punch of Flight-lust for the first time. But after that point things were a bit fuzzy. Exactly how far... No. Can't go there remember? He reminded himself. So back to square one. How to shed light on all this. Before he knew what he was doing, D'mar stepped even closer. There he used what little light they had to see if she meant it before adding, "You want to know something, Katleya? I've missed you too."

Katleya shifted a little. She couldn't read D'mar's expression. Maybe she shouldn't have said anything. She just wasn't sure. She had never felt this way before and she was afraid that he wouldn't feel the same way. She knew it was silly. They were riders after all, but that didn't mean she wanted to be rejected.
The blue rider looked up when D'mar stepped closer. She gave him a slight smile. At least he hadn't turned and run when she had said she had missed him. The young woman's eyes widened. "You have?" she asked softly. Was this too good to hope for? Did he really feel the same way she did?
