Kiyoni groaned softly. She didn't want to get up yet, but sleeping was becoming harder. She was in her fifth month of being pregnant and she was starting to feel it now. The search rider opened her blue eyes half way and reluctantly sat up. She glanced down at her mate who was still asleep beside her. She smiled. She liked waking up beside Arktos.
Kiyoni slowly slid out of bed and made her way to the bathing chamber. She was thankful now for the private bathing chamber. A warm bath always seemed to make her feel better. She slipped her sleep shirt off, but then froze as she felt a sensation that she hadn't felt before. She gasped softly and lay a hand on her stomach. Was that what she thought it was?

The Candidate Master was often tired, this was what cams from being awake during the day to teach and also being awake most of the night with his black wher Arkysk. The wher did not realize this being as simple of mindas he was, but he was probably the only reason that Arktos had survived so long after the death of his brown dragon Bjornth and his then weyrmate and child. So he didnt mind the lack of sleep, for he loved both his duties and his wher.
But at this hour, in the sleepy gray light before sunrise, the black wher finished patrolling the corridors of the Barracks alone. He didn't mind, His needed sleep, and even more so, His needed time with his mate. Arkysk loved Kiyoni and Eliwodth almost as much as he loved His, which was unusual for a wher. When he nosed opened the door of the sleeping quarters from the ledge and saw that Kiyoni was awake, he crooned low and soft and rushed over in the hopes of getting his ears rubbed. His still slept, though lightly, for it was hard to get a sound sleep when your bonded is active.
As the wher reached Kiyoni, he heard her gasp. He knew that gasping usually meant something bad. What is wrong, Kiyoni? Do you hurt? Is the egg all right? When His had told him that Kiyoni would soon have a baby he was excited, but he didn't quite understand the concept and expected Kiyoni to lay and egg any day. This small inner tumult however, was enough to rouse Arktos from his sleep with a snort, sitting up suddenly and looking around with bleary eyes. "Kiyoni? What's going on?" he asked worriedly.
He had been over the moon when he'd found out she was expecting a child, despite the fact that it might not be his, but a product of Eliwodth's mating Flight. Though it had killed him not to be able to participate, he vowed to raise the child as his own, and any child of hers. But it had been a rough pregnancy, and though he put on the face of optimism, he was worried. He'd rather be childless forever than lose Kiyoni.

Kiyoni stood motionless for a few minutes in the bathing chamber. She kept a hand on her stomach as she tried to figure out if what she was feeling was really what she thought it was. The green rider picked up her shirt and wrapped it around herself again. She looked over when she heard Arkysk's voice. She was getting used to hearing the black talk to her.
She slowly reached out and touched the black's head. "The baby's fine," she whispered, finding it endearing that the wher was worried about the baby. She knew that Arktos was, but she was surprised that Arkysk was.
Kiyoni looked over when she heard Arktos, but gasped again. She reached out to take her mate's hand. "Come here," she whispered, pulling his closer and gently setting his hand against her stomach. She knew that he had been extremely worried. She had been worried herself. She had never been pregnant and this hadn't been a good pregnancy for her at all.

The black wher crooned low in his throat as he received the petting he had desired, reassured by Kiyoni's words. He was easily calmed really, and felt even better now thathidnBonded was awake. Surely if there was something wrong, His would be able to fix it. Arkysk believed that His could fix anything.
Arktos rubbed his eyes as he pulled himself to the edge of the bed, his bare feet cold on the stone floor. He allowed Kiyoni to pull him to his feet as she grabbed his hand and set in against her rounded stomach. The reason. For this had not yet penetrated his fogged brain, but then he felt something move under his hand, just a tiny fluttering. This jolted him fully awake. "Was that...the baby, moving just now?" he asked with undisguised wonder.

Kiyoni smiled a little as Arkysk settled down. At least the black didn't seem worried anymore and hopefully that would mean Arktos would calm down too. She hadn't meant to worry her mate anymore.
The search rider glanced over her shoulder at him. She giggled softly when she saw that he was still half asleep. She had tried not to wake him up, but apparently Arkysk's sudden worry had. She did feel bad for that. Kiyoni grinned brightly when his eyes widened in realization. She nodded slightly. "I think so," she said softly, laying her head against his shoulder while laying her hand over his on her stomach. It was an odd sensation to her, but one that made her happy.

A beatific smile settled onto Arktos's features. He had been worried, about the baby and about his weyrmate. This was not only a joyful moment, it was somehow reassuring, as if their child was telling them it was all right. He wrapped his other arm around Kiyoni, soaking in the peace and contentment of the moment. He felt another whisper of movement under his finger, and he chuckled. "Very active in there this morning." he said. "Now that we're up, should we send for breakfast. Are you hungry?" He knew that Kiyoni often felt too sick to eat, but he had to make sure she took care of herself.

Kiyoni actually felt a bit relieved now that the baby was moving. She had been so worried that sometimes she lost sleep over it and she knew that wasn't good. Not to mention she had been worrying Artkos and she didn't like that. She smiled as the baby moved again. "That he is," she agreed. It was the first time the baby had really started moving and she was so happy. Kiyoni nodded slightly. "I am kind of hungry," she said. She still felt sick, but she would try to at least keep something down.
