Calyssa woke in the morning feeling sick to her stomach. She staggered out of bed and made her way toward the shared bathing chamber for the weyrlings. Thankfully Freyath was still asleep and Storm was curled up with Misty somewhere. The red rider made it into the bathing chamber before things went down hill on her. She gasped as she felt something warm slide down her leg.
She looked down in a panic. Her eyes widened when she realized it was blood. Calyssa shook and collapsed against the wall. The blood continued to come and her body cramped, causing her to gasp in pain. She shut her eyes, not sure what was happening to her. Tears slid down her cheeks. She suddenly screamed as the pain got worse.
Calyssa! Freyath bellowed, jumping to her feet. What is wrong? Are you hurt?
The red rider was shaking. I need help, Freyath, she sobbed. I can't move.
The red snorted. Amonth, she ordered. Calyssa needs help. Send Yours to her NOW! Freyath couldn't get into the weyr, so she was going to get help there as soon as she could. I'm sending J'sen up, Freyath said, taking to calling Amonth's by his name.
Calyssa's eyes widened. "No," she whispered, but gasped. The blood was coming harder and she felt too weak to move. She knew she couldn't get to the infirmary on her own. Why Freyath hadn't sent S'tex she didn't know. But maybe this was for the better. Her brother would have a fit.

Amonth lifted his head from his foreclaws as soon as he heard Freyath give the order, and gave a half-snort. I'll send him, lovely Freyath, but you needn't panic. Mine will know what to do. The young Bronze then turned to fix his gaze on his bonded, whom was still stirring in his sleep. Oddly enough, the noises coming from J'sen sounded like he was mumbling, as if dreaming. Misty was curled at the foot of the bed with Storm, but the continual shifting eventually woke the queen firelizard, who gave an annoyed cheep before resting her tiny head back down. Mine, Freyath's is in trouble. I know you shouldn't be in the other chamber, but this sounds serious.
Ironically, J'sen was muttering Calyssa's name repeatedly in his sleep, but it was more out of fear and worry. The young man's eyes snapped open and he sat up, beads of sweat and a few plastered locks of hair on his brow. "Calyssa..." he half-whispered. In most circumstances, boys weren't allowed to be in the girls' Weyrling Barracks and vice-versa. But ever since he and his weyrmate-to-be had came together and practically lost themselves to pure Flightlust as a result of Chandrath's Flight, the young fisherman had felt a deeper connection to the pretty blue-eyed, sun-bleached blonde girl from Crooked River Hold. J'sen tried to keep the worry of Calyssa conceiving as a result of that day, but never could say anything to her about it.
He wondered if it this was the cause of Freyath's worry. Rolling out from beneath the furs, J'sen hastily dressed and quickly pulled his boots over his feet. He knew Calyssa was in trouble, and had to move fast.
Skidding to a halt in front of the girls' barracks, he could see a small crowd of girls hovering near the shared bathing chamber, their faces mixed with worry and fear, all of them whispering and talking among themselves. J'sen cleared his throat, and a few of them looked in his direction. "J'sen!" One of them practically shouted, her voice suggesting relief. "It's Calyssa. She's..." "In trouble," he finished the statement. "Amonth told me. Where is she?" Another pointed in the direction of the shared bathing chamber, and J'sen made his way through the crowd. Once he reached the bathing chamber, his eyes widened with horror, then quickly grew determined. Collasped in a heap against the wall was Calyssa, and she was practically wallowing in a pool of blood. Shards. This isn't good at all. J'sen turned to look over his shoulder and shouted at the girls. "Bring some furs so I can keep Calyssa warm and get her to the Infirmary before she goes into shock. And get this blood cleaned up!"
J'sen leaned down next to Calyssa, trying to wipe the tears from her eyes and studied her closely. The blood seemed to be coming from in between her legs. He was no Healer, but he didn't think a heavy flow like that was normal. "Hang on Calyssa," he said soothingly. "I'm here." It wasn't long before someone handed him some furs, and the Bronze Weyrling did his best to wrap the girl in them to keep her warm. Lifting her into his arms, J'sen pushed his way through the crowd and finally headed off at a quick trot. "Healer! I need a Healer!" he shouted as he made his way to the Infirmary.

Freyath was getting a bit antsy in her little wallow. She couldn't get to Calyssa and she didn't like that all. Especially when she could still feel such acute pain from her rider's mind. The red moaned softly. What is wrong with her? she asked Amonth. The dragon wanted to comfort her rider, but nothing she did seemed to help any. Actually, Calyssa didn't even seem to notice her dragon's constant presence in her mind.
Calyssa curled up in the corner, crying softly. Her body kept cramping and putting her in more pain. She couldn't move or even try to comfort her own dragon and let her know that things were alright. She didn't feel alright. She wanted to just curl up and die if she was honest. But she knew she couldn't do that. Calyssa closed her eyes tightly and cried.
The young weyrling hadn't even noticed the other girls gathered outside the bathing chamber. Not that she really would have cared. Her mind was too pain filled to really care about anything else. She was feeling weaker by the moment and she didn't think that was good at all. Calyssa opened her dull blue eyes when she heard a familiar voice. "J'sen?" she whimpered.
The girl gasped when he picked her up. She was trembling badly and crying almost hysterically. She hurt so bad and she didn't know why. She hadn't really taken the time to think about what could really be wrong. She buried her face in J'sen's shoulder and whimpered with each step that sent pain through her already battered body.

The sound of shouting outside the infirmary brought Tesni to attention. It had been a slow day and she'd been staring off into space as she manned the table that served as the reception desk of sorts. There were no patients to check on, and the Candidate quarantine was somebody else's job. So she practically tripped over herself getting up and getting to the door. Upon opening she discovered a white- eyed male whirling carrying a whimpering girl in a towel. There also seem to be quite a bit of blood involved. That was never good.
"What happened?!" she asked over the commotion, her voice steady. One thing that made her a good healer was that she kept a cool head. As she talked she led the boy to an exam table and gestured for him to set the girl down on it as she drew the curtain around them.

Calyssa gasped when J'sen lifted her into his arms, but he didn't have time to stop. The girl was bleeding badly, and there was little time to waste. Thankfully, it didn't take him long to reach the Infirmary, and Tesni was there. Thank Faranth, J'sen thought to himself when he caught sight of the Healer. She had escorted them over to an exam table, and upon setting Calyssa down gently he turned to look at the older woman. "I...I don't know," the young man tried to explain. "All I know was Amonth was trying to calm Freyath down when she started to panic. I know I shouldn't be in the girls' chamber, Tesni, but..." J'sen gestured at Calyssa. "She was bleeding pretty badly, and it looked like it was coming from beneath her legs. I...I don't know what's wrong with her."
He couldn't stop shaking and he tried to keep his voice steady, but was failing miserably. All he knew was his lover and weyrmate-to-be was in danger, but he had never felt so powerless to save her until now. The only thing he could do, really, was to relay the message to his own Bronze weyrling. Amonth, bring Freyath with you and wait outside the Infirmary. And get word to the Weyrling Master and his assistant.
J'sen heard Amonth give his acknowledgement, then passed on the message accordingly.

Calyssa moaned as she was laid down on the table. She closed her eyes tightly and cried softly. The girl pulled her legs up to her chest, her stomach cramping badly. She had no idea what was wrong or why she was hurting so badly. She had never felt like this before.
The teen slowly opened pale blue eyes and looked up at Tesni. She was thankful that it was a female Healer anyhow. Although at the moment she didn't care. "I woke up...and when I....moved I....started bleeding," she gasped out. Talking took a lot of her remaining energy. She had never had a moonday that had been like this before. Why now?
Freyath threw her up when Amonth spoke to her. The red ran out of the barracks, wanting to be as close to her rider as she could. I'm here, she crooned to Calyssa while she waited for Amonth.
G'fal looked up in surprise as Treoth passed on the message. He frowned slightly and headed for the infirmary. This didn't sound good at all. What could have happened? He stood back once he reached the infirmary and waited.

After the somewhat frantic replies from both teenagers, Tesni was quite sure she didn't even have to examine the teen to make a diagnosis. "You two were together for the Goldflight, I take it," she said, without judgemwnt, just a statement of fact. As a Healer, Tesni had had mixed feelings about the Weyrs decision to allow the weyrlings to remain for Chamdrath's Flight. Of course, she had known why, and it probably had still been the best decision, but these were the consequences.
"I'm sorry to tell you that you're having a miscarriage," she said, calmly but with sympathy. "If the Goldflight was the only time, you shouldn't be too far along and though painful, you are in no danger. I'll take you to a warm bath that you can lay in for a while to ease the pain, and I'll make you a tea that will help with that too, as well as ensure that all of the embryo passes through. Otherwise you could get an infection. The real danger is that your dragon will panic. So if you can, you tell Freyath to come in here, and Amonth too, and just concentrate on keeping them calm." She said the last part to both teens.
"As soon as they both are here, there should be plenty of room, I'll bring you to the bath. Right now I'm going to make the tea, and you should try to relax as much as possible. The more tense you are the more it will hurt."

It didn't take long for the Bronze weyrling to half-run, half-glide over to the Infirmary where Freyath was waiting for him. It will be alright, Freyath. Kaitoth's will know what to do. Amonth affectionately curled his tail around the Red's hindquarters. You'll see. But J'sen didn't feel quite as confident when Tesni started in on him and Calyssa, making the statement obvious. Yes, they had been together during the Goldflight. There wasn't anywhere else to go during that time, thankfully. But her next set of words were like a punch to the solar plexus, practically knocking the wind out of him. Calyssa was pregnant? And was now suffering a miscarriage as a result? His head was now swimming. How was this possible, him impregnating Calyssa and now this? He wanted to kick himself for his actions, but deep inside he knew Amonth would never let him do such a thing.
Mine, is everything alright? Amonth could tell something was disturbing the young man. Taking his time, J'sen finally formed the response in his head...Bring Freyath with you into the Infirmary. Calyssa's hurt, badly. She...she... J'sen tried to think of how he could explain a miscarriage to Amonth, but the Bronze seemed to understand. She was egg-heavy but lost it. Mine, I am so sorry. I'll bring Freyath. Crooning to the Red, the Bronze ducked his head and made his way into the Infirmary, to stand near his bonded.
J'sen smiled weakly at the dragon, his eyes welling with tears before focusing on Calyssa. Gently, he took the girl's hand into his and leaned over to kiss her on the forehead. "I'm still here for you, Calyssa," he said, softly, now brushing blond locks of hair back. "I'm not going anywhere. I got us into this, but I'm not walking away. I'm better than that."

Freyath leaned against Amonth when the bronze arrived. She lowered her head and moaned softly, feeling the pain in her rider's mind. She didn't like it at all. I hope so, the red said, not at all sure that her rider would ever feel good again. Calyssa could feel the worry radiating from her dragon. She tried to concentrate on her dragon, but she was in too much pain. She whimpered softly and clenched her fists.
Calyssa looked at Tesni in shock. But they had only been together once. How? "Miscarrying?" she squeaked. How could she not know that she was pregnant? She closed her eyes tightly. She could barely think or speak through pain and shock. Tears slid down her cheeks and she barely even heard what Tesni had said. Calyssa nodded slightly. Tea and a bath would be nice. She tried to calm down, but she wasn't so sure that was possible at the moment.
Freyath didn't at all understand what was going on yet. The red willingly followed Amonth into the infirmary. She hurried over to her rider and gently nuzzled her arm, seeing all the blood around Calyssa. Calyssa, Mine? What is wrong? Why is there so much red stuff? And why do you hurt so bad? Calyssa shakily reached out and touched her dragon's head. I'll be okay, Freyath. I just hurt right now. I... She couldn't finish the words. She didn't want to think that she had lost the baby.
The young rider looked up at J'sen's gentle touch. She shakily reached up and wiped a tear from his cheek. Her hands were cold and she was shaking. "Thank you," she whispered. "For not...leaving." She closed her eyes, wanting to tell both J'sen and her dragon more, but she wasn't strong enough at the moment.
G'fal shook his head. This wasn't good at all. He followed Tesni. "Is there anything I can do to help?" he asked softly. He had been worried about leaving the weyrlings at the Weyr during the gold flight, but he knew that a miscarriage could happen at any time for a woman. He just hoped that Calyssa would be alright. He would hate to lose the girl and the little red.

Peronith looked up from her feeding before relaying the young bronze’s message to Hers. Freyath’s is in the infirmary. You must go check on Hers, she told her rider who sighed in the midst of writing up a hide on a recent occurrence. Freyath’s…..Calyssa. The Assistant WeyrlingMaster dropped her task and headed for the infirmary, sending Treasure on ahead to let G’fal know that she was on her way. Reaching the infirmary, she shooed any Weyrlings milling about away a little. “Come on, everyone. Let’s give Calyssa some space please! Move away from the infirmary,” she said, deciding that the little group of Weyrlings that had followed the commotion did not need to be there.
Treasure found G’fal and cheeped an acknowledgement to him. *Kikikaa do?* she asked of the WeyrlingMaster, waiting for some sort of instruction to take back to her Pet.

J'sen returned with Amonth and Freyath quick enough and Tesni handed Calyssa a steaming cup of tea, full of willow bark and other herbs to relax her and ease the pain. She also handed J'sen a separate cup, with just calming chamomile and valerian root. He needed to be calm for both his dragon and Calyssa. "Now both of you drink that down, it should be just warm rather than scalding. I'll go speak to G'fal, and then I'll be back to take you to te bath."
She walked over to the weyrlings master. "She'll just need rest after tis, a few days at least, but i think she'll be fine. The most important thing you can do is keep the dragons from getting too upset, I don't think Freyath is in danger of going between, but all the youngsters together worrying could send the more sensitive ones into a froth. They need to be kept busy."
