G'rett was going over the latest evaluation of his Wing's performance in that last practice run. It had been nearly flawless in his opinion, which he knew was more than he could hope for. One of those Green Riders from K'ain's group was still unable to get his dragon to pull that tight spiral, a maneuver G'rett and Coth had practiced for sevendays on end. Otherwise, in the man's opinion, another excellent run by Stardust.
Signing his name on the bottom of the parchment, G'rett neatly rolled the document up and bound it with a silken cord - copper with a thin blue strand - then took a candle and let a drop of molten wax fall on it before hardening into a seal. Rising to his feet, G'rett walked over and gave Coth a playful rub of his eye-ridges before exiting his personal quarters.
It was that time of year when his mind would drift towards the Turn's End festival, and if it would be different from the ones he'd attended in the past. Back then, G'rett really didn't have any serious interest in a woman, so there was no need for him to buy anything fancy - or craft anything special for that matter. Now that he and Quindara were practically weyrmates, he knew he'd have to get something spectacular for her. A new sword, perhaps? Or a rare gem pendant? He wasn't sure, so he decided to ask someone for advice. Someone who had ties to the Trading community. B'ren. Sure, the other man was nothing more than a scoundrel in his eyes, but also a valuable Rider. And comrade. B'ren had risked his life as much as the others to free him, and now G'rett would repay the favor by getting his opinion on what would be considered an appropriate gift for Quindara.
It didn't take long to make the trip from his own quarters to where B'ren and his weyrmate, Tanly, was staying, but he made the trip unannounced. G'rett knocked on the doorjamb, and waited for a moment until the door opened. Eyes widened in surprise, B'ren cleared his throat. "Wingleader G'rett! Uh...what can I do for you?" B'ren seemed to be caught off-guard, which only prompted a smile on the other man's face. "Sorry to drop by without saying anything, B'ren, but do you and Tanly have a moment? I'd like to speak to you two in private, if I may." B'ren simply nodded, then stepped back so G'rett could enter.

Tanly was curled up on the couch when she heard the knock on the door. She was thankful that B'ren had answered it, because she wasn't feeling up to moving a whole lot at the moment. Although she did get up when she heard G'rett's voice. She was surprised that the bronze rider had stopped by. He didn't usually.
"Hi G'rett," she said with a smile, moving over beside B'ren. She had heard part of the conversation, but still wasn't sure what he wanted. She looked over at her mate, wondering if he had gotten any more out of G'rett. "What can we help you with?" she asked curiously, folding her arms. She was still a little self conscious about starting to show.

G'rett nodded and offered Tanly a warm smile. She seemed to be trying to hide something from the way she folded her arms, but the Wingleader chose to say nothing for the moment. The truth would be revealed in time. Although he himself would never vocalize whatever it was that was bothering the pretty redheaded rider, odds were it was starting to affect a few of the other ladies too...
He cleared his throat. "Uh, listen, B'ren. I know that we're coming up on Turn's End, and that usually means we have a Gather combined with a festival. Now, in the past you've never seen me purchase anything, but that was only because...well..." G'rett blushed, then nervously cleared his throat again - prompting the beginning of a wicked grin from the Trader. "It's not like it's some huge secret that Quindara and I are together, but I really want to give her something special this Turn's End. Do you have any suggestions?"
B'ren took a free hand and rubbed his chin thoughtfully, one eye closed and the other focused towards the ceiling. A vocal hmmmm emanated from his throat, and for several ticks he kept the facade going until he could come up with a reasonable answer. B'ren snapped his fingers, opening his other eye and now focused them on the man standing in front of him and his weyrmate. "Give her something useful, but make it with your own hands. A custom long knife worthy of a future Queen Rider. Go talk to that Bronze Weyrling, J'sen, and ask him to get word to his father to send some rare gems in the next shipment from Azure Isle. You should still have some iron and silver ore left to work with down in the forge, along with some dense, heavy dark wood. If you don't have enough in the stockpiles, I'll ask my Traders' clan if they have any or if they can bring some in the next time."
"I'd also suggest getting her a ring with a gemstone as well, but that's just my opinion." B'ren shrugged, then nonchalantly stretched before putting an arm around Tanly's waist. "It's really up to you, Wingleader G'rett, but personally I think going with something handcrafted would be ideal."

Tanly listened quietly. She was glad that G'rett hadn't mentioned anything about how she was standing. She knew it was really nothing to be embarrassed about. And she also knew she wasn't the only one affected by it, but it was still a bit nerve wracking. At least in her opinion it was.
The green rider nodded as she listened to what B'ren suggested. She knew Quindara would be thrilled. "A nice knife would nice," she agreed. She knew those could come in handy. And it would be nice to have something hand crafted from the one you love.
"A ring would nice," she whispered, wiggling her fingers a little. She loved the ring that B'ren had given her. "But the knife would be nice too. Or both. Or even a nice necklace." She leaned against B'ren when he put his arm around her.

G'rett chuckled when Tanly showed off her ring. "I'm not sure if I can afford anything that fancy, Tanly. Or even a necklace, for that matter. But I think the knife would definitely work." He nodded at the couple. "Thanks for your input, you two. I'll see you later." Sketching a mock salute, G'rett turned and headed out of the weyr then started down the corridor. So, that was one down. He supposed he would have to get something for Kiyoni as well - even though he wasn't quite sure if he was the father of her child, it would still be appropriate to get a gift for the Searchrider. Possibly even something for Q'del and Toniel, as a way of thanking them for their willingness to agree to the rescue mission. He owed the Weyrsecond and the Weyrwoman's Second a great deal, but honestly had no clue how to repay them.
It was time to pay a visit to his fellow Wingleaders, to get their input on how he should approach the subject...
Coth, ask M'lym and V'zee to meet me in the dining hall, would you?
Yes, G'rett. Iverasth, Kyanath; Mine would like to see yours in the Dining Hall. He seems a bit...unsure of himself...[/i]

"It doesn't have to be fancy," Tanly assured him. "Quindara will like whatever you get her." She knew she would if B'ren got her anything else. Of course the ring had been perfect. She had never expected that. She stayed in B'ren's arms as G'rett turned to leave. "Feel free to stop by anytime even if you don't have any questions," she teased him. She liked the bronze rider well enough. He was nice and him and Quindara seemed extremely happy together.

Kyanath looked up from where he lazily stretched out on the rim. He was still resting from a different sort of wing practice that morning even though the little bronze still had energy to burn. I will tell Mine, he answered the younger bronze calmly. Turning to gaze around the Weyr Bowl, he did not see his rider, but he passed along the message to the wingleader. Vik-Mine, Coth's wishes to speak with you in the Dining Cavern, the lean dragon spoke calmly, getting a confirmation from the former Stable hand shortly after.
V'zee altered his path from the stables to head for the Dining Cavern, wondering what G'rett was needing from him. A very short jaunt later, the wingleader stepped into the Caverns and paused briefly to let his eyes adjust to the change in lighting before proceeding within to look for G'rett.

M'lym was making his way towards the Dining Cavern after Iverasth relayed the message. I wonder what this is all about? It wasn't often that G'rett came directly to him for advice, but this was something the older Wingleader just had to look into. No sooner did he set foot into the cavern did he spot G'rett, pacing nervously back and forth while V'zee had arrived just several moments before. Nodding to his fellow Bronze Rider, M'lym cleared his throat to catch the younger Wingleader's attention. G'rett looked up, and gave both men a weak, nervous smile before he sat down at the edge of one of the tables, folding his arms over his chest. "Thank you both for coming on such short notice," he said, unfolding his arms briefly to run his hands through his hair. M'lym could only nod, and he could tell something was bothering the younger man. "Not a problem, G'rett. What's on your mind?" M'lym likewise took a seat near G'rett, aping his posture with the exception of crossing one boot over the other.
G'rett sighed. "It's no secret that Quindara and I are unofficially a couple, but a couple nonetheless. But with the Turn's End festival coming soon, I have absolutely no idea what to get her. Or if I should get anything for Q'del and Toniel after all I put them through at the last Hatching Feast." He focused on M'lym, then on V'zee. "Any ideas?"
M'lym leaned back slightly, his facial expression suggesting he was thinking, but in reality he fought to keep the smirk from coming to his lips. So, he's finally learned a lesson. Still, he does have a good question, which leads me to wonder the same thing for Meera. But the older Wingleader opted to wait until V'zee gave his input before providing his own.

V'zee nodded in answer to his fellow wingleader's thanks, glancing M'lym's way to acknowledge the other bronzerider present. Vikki zipped into the Cavern and skidded to a landing on the nearest tabletop to his Pet, chittering merrily once he had righted himself and stepped closer to his Pet. V'zee did not sit, but he did lean against the edge of a table, arms crossed loosely over his chest as his icy eyes gave G'rett his full attention. Unlike M'lym, a good-natured smirk did make a presence on the former stablehand's face after G'rett's words. Perhaps G'rett was finally taking up plenty of responsibility and it looked like commitment, too. "Well, what's she like most? If she's got a fancy fer some'in', ya' could git 'er some'in' 'long 'em lines an' she'd be plenty 'appy, knowin' it come from ya'." He knew what he was getting his love for Turn's End, but they had been together for a long while, too. As for the other two, they sure had done a lot for G'rett. "As fer the other two, I'd say some'in' 'ey could place in their weyrs or even be able ta use turn-round." He glanced at M'lym to see what the other wingleader might add as well before turning his dark gaze back to G'rett for his answers and ideas to bounce off himself and M'lym.
