It had only been a month since he asked her to be his weyrmate and lover. Even though he had the reputation of being nothing more than a scoundrel and rogue whom just couldn't stay true to one woman for any length of time, B'ren decided to bet everything on Tanly. If he was wrong, well, he was wrong. There was nothing that could be done about that. He didn't regret getting her drunk during a game of dragon poker, nor did he regret sleeping with her that night. Not even convincing her to come back to bed with him the following morning bothered him.
No, it was something else entirely. Had neither of them been dragonriders, it would have been a tedious process of B'ren asking Tanly to marry him. But because they were both Riders, they couldn't exactly get married. Instead, they chose to become weyrmates, even though they both knew there was always a chance that either of them could wind up in someone else's bed as a result of Flightlust. For B'ren, it was easy to understand and live with. That was his main reason for not wanting to get himself involved with one woman for an extended length of time. Well, there was the other reason. He'd never been good with keeping a relationship going. Now that he had Chiath's help, it would be a little easier.
B'ren just didn't know how much control he could exert over his Brown, nor did he know if Tanly would convince her Cadalayith to pick Chiath every time she Rose. Life was full of risks, but he would be willing to put odds on Chiath and Cadalayith. Which was why he was making his way to his weyrmate's now. She hadn't moved in with him yet, but there was another thing he wanted to ask her.
If she wanted to have any type of a gathering to celebrate their union.

Tanly sat in her weyr quietly brushing her long hair. She was humming softly as she thought. So much had changed in just a month's time. She had never figured she would have a weyrmate. And if she did, B'ren would have been the last one she would have thought of. But of course she didn't regret it. The worst that could happen was they would go back to how they were before. But she thought the bet was worth it.
You seem awful happy, Cadalayith said smugly. You really care for Chiath's don't you? The green had tried for a while to find Tanly someone, and she was glad that it appeared she had finally.
I do, Tanly smiled. I didn't think I'd ever feel this way.
Cadalayith just snorted. Tanly grinned and went back to her humming. She had no idea that B'ren was headed up to her weyr and Cadalayith wasn't saying anything.

B'ren lightly rapped on the doorjamb to announce his presence, then sauntered into Tanly's weyr. She was brushing her hair, he noticed, and again he felt lust creeping into his veins. He could just sit there for literally candlemarks and be content by just looking at her, admiring her hair and her body and not do anything else. But that never stopped him from having his way with her, either.
"Darling," B'ren purred as he stepped up behind Tanly, leaning slightly down to wrap his arms around her waist then kissed her on the cheek. "I was wondering...now that you and I are weyrmates, I know everyone will wonder what's gotten into me, why I chose to shed my reputation. But I had two questions for you. One, when will you finally move in with me; and two, did you want to host a gathering for everyone to announce our union?"

Tanly looked over her shoulder at the light rap. She smiled when she saw B'ren walk in. The green rider sat her brush down and stopped her humming. It looked like he had something on his mind and she wondered what. Hopefully it was something good. Tanly couldn't help a light blush that colored her cheeks. She had started to care for B'ren more then she had thought she would.
"Yes, love?" she asked playfully, turning her head to kiss him properly. "Hmm, that's true. A lot of people will be wondering what happened to you," she smiled. The green rider shrugged a little. "I guess I just wanted to make sure you weren't going to high tail it the first chance you got," she admitted. "But I think, if you still want me I could move in anytime." She smiled. "I think that would be great. And it would give everyone a chance to relax and enjoy themselves."

B'ren chuckled when Tanly turned to kiss him properly, then he stole another kiss from her before she was able to speak. Only then did he respond. "Chi would be furious with me if I turned tail. Besides, a bet's a bet, and you know I'm not one to turn this one down. As for you moving in, I could always get some of the drudges from the lower caverns to come up and start moving your stuff today, if you want."
He mirrored Tanly's smile when she thought it would be a good idea to host the gathering feast. "I'll have to clear it with the Headwoman. Shells, everyone's been through enough lately, so getting everyone to unwind would definitely help." B'ren thought for a moment. "Though I did have something for you." He reached into the pouch he always carried at his side, and withdrew a dazzling gold ring with a sapphire and two diamonds. "Won this in a recent game of high stakes dragon poker." He held it in between his thumb and forefinger. "Mind if I put it on your hand?"

"Mmm," she mumbled. She could definitely get used to this. "Cad wouldn't be very happy either," she said softly. "She's been pretty smug lately." Which was true. Her green kept telling her that it was about time. Tanly chuckled. "I think this is the best bet I've ever taken," she said. The green rider nodded. "I would like that." Moving in would make it feel more real. At least in her eyes.
Tanly sighed softly. "That's true. So much has happened lately. It would do us all some good to unwind. I could go with you when you talk to the Headwoman. Maybe if we offer to help she'd be more willing." Tanly looked at him in confusion. "For me?" she asked. Her eyes widened when she saw the ring and she looked up at him. "B'ren, it's beautiful!" she gasped, holding her hand toward him without a second thought.

B'ren grinned, and took the ring and tried to put it on Tanly's third finger on her left hand. It fit perfectly. "Can't let my weyrmate go without a token of my love and affection, now can I?" he teased. Although truthfully, the scoundrel and rogue wanted everyone to know that he and Tanly were now an official couple. B'ren knew full well mostly everyone wouldn't quite understand it, why he would have this change of heart...but he would simply shrug it off and reply that he decided to put everything on Tanly. And if she were indeed Lady Luck incarnate, why not?
He then offered his hand so she could come to her feet if she chose. "Wouldn't hurt if we talked to the Headwoman together," he said. "Though first things first. Let's get those drudges up here to move your belongings. I'll let Chi know to be expecting to share his ledge."
There's no need to tell me, Mine. I already overheard your conversation with Cadalayith's. All I have to say is, to use your own words...it's about time! Chiath bugled with pleasure when he heard he would be sharing his ledge with the lovely Cadalayith. B'ren heard his dragon bugle, and he blushed, shaking his head. "Good ol' Chi. Always listening in on my conversations." He sighed.

Tanly's hand shook a little as B'ren slipped the ring on her finger. She couldn't believe it fit perfectly. She looked up at him, her eyes shining. "It's beautiful," she whispered. "Thank you." She couldn't believe he had gotten her a ring. Even if it had been won gambling. It was the thought that counted and she loved it. The green rider set her hand in his and let him pull her to her feet.
"Alright, let's talk to her," she smiled. Although she couldn't wait to tell her brothers what had happened. They'd never believe her. She chuckled. "Someone's impatient," she teased him, leaning against him. She hadn't even had a chance to pull her hair up like she normally did for the day yet.
Humans sure take a while to listen to us, Cadalayith told Chiath. And would you mind if I shared you ledge now? The green wasn't above flirting.
Tanly chuckled. "Trust me, Cad does that to me all the time so I know how you feel."

B'ren leaned down to kiss Tanly again when she thanked him for the ring, then helped his weyrmate to her feet. He nodded when she agreed to go find the Headwoman together so they could start planning the gathering feast, but she teased him about being impatient to move her belongings into his weyr. "Me? Impatient?" B'ren gave her an innocent look, then smirked. "Perish the thought." Laughing as Tanly then told him how her Cadalayith did the same things as his Chiath, B'ren slipped his fingers through his weyrmate's and headed out.
Come on over, Cadalayith! Chiath bugled to his new mate.

Her face flushed slightly, but she grinned up at him. She definitely liked the idea of getting used to having him around. She couldn't help herself as she sneaked another look at the ring he had given her. Tanly leaned against him once she was on her feet. "Oh no, not you," she laughed. "You would never be impatient." She could point out two times already that he hadn't been the most patient around. "Although I must admit, the thought of moving in is exciting and just think, you get to wake up to me tomorrow. I must warn you. I'm not too pretty in the morning," she teased.
Cadalayith glided over to Chiath's ledge. She crooned softly to the brown before curling up.
