Tanly crept out onto her ledge to check on her green. Cadalayith was sound asleep. The young green rider smiled fondly at her green before heading back into her weyr to get changed. It was late, but she didn't care. She wasn't tired and a swim sounded inviting.
Tanly pulled on a pair of cut offs and a short tank top. It was late enough that she didn't figure she would bump into anyone, so she wasn't quite as cautious with her dress as she usually was. She slipped on her boots and headed down to the lake.
The night air felt good as Tanly left her boots and towel on the shore. She quickly braided her long auburn hair before silently jumping into the lake. She came back up and just floated on her back for a few moments, enjoying the quiet of the night. She didn't even think about the possibilty of anyone being around.

B'ren was already out on a moonlight swim in the lake, his mind still giddy over winning several hundred marks in a game of dragon poker. Several Riders weren't too happy with their losses, and even went so far as to accuse him of cheating, but after he'd been searched, he went back to his Weyr all grins having been exonerated. A few of his hapless victims weren't too happy, but there wasn't anything they could do...though they did vow the next time they hosted a game, the scoundrel known as B'ren wouldn't be invited.
He left all of his clothes on the lakeshore, his Chiath sound asleep on his ledge so the dragon couldn't try to keep his bonded out of trouble. What little light there was, however, illuminated someone else diving into the lake with a minimal splash. B'ren tried to get a closer look. Curvy...long hair...hmm. Company? Coming to visit him? What honor was this, to have a female companion join him on a night like tonight, under the moons and the stars?
A mischievous grin came to his lips. Well now, time to make his presence known. Taking in a deep breath, B'ren arched his back and dove under the surface and swam towards the woman, slicing through the water with relative ease.

Tanly sighed softly as she enjoyed the relative quiet of the lake. She could hear a few dragons as they shfited in their sleep, but nothing much other then that. With a gentle thought, she could tell that Cadalayith was still sound asleep. Good, her green had worked hard that day with drills. Which was probably why Tanly couldn't sleep. Drills always seemed to wind her up.
The green rider was still unaware of B'ren's presence. She had been thinking about other things and how maybe she'd take a trip to visit her brothers soon to even notice the slight splash that B'ren had made. Not that it had been much of one. But normally she would have noticed it. Although she was soon to be in for quite a shock.

B'ren continued to make his way through the water, the muted rays of moonlight providing enough illumination to allow him to see where he was going. His intended target was, as far as he knew, unaware that he was lurking just below the surface, her back to him. She was clad in a short top and cut-offs, clinging to her body. She looked absolutely ravishing...
Wait. Was her hair...reddish? A deep red? B'ren wondered who it was. Well, he was about to find out. Swimming up towards her, he quietly broke the surface of the water just enough for his eyes to be seen, then ducked below again and disappeared. The only thing she would probably hear was a faint noise, and he was hoping he could get her to stop and simply stay in place, treading water.

Tanly started at the light sound and slipped under for a brief moment as she tried to get her bearings back. She brushed her bangs out of her face as she coughed a bit from sucking in too much water. The green rider looked around in confusion. She wasn't quite sure where the noise had come from.
She soon frowned and shook her head. It probably some fish or even a firelizard somewhere close by. She ended up laughing at herself. She had lived in the Weyr her whole life, you would think she would be use to the different noises.

B'ren watched as his intended victim inadvertently went under the surface for a moment, then came back up, her legs dangling within reach. He had to duck a bit further, but his lungs were starting to burn, which meant he'd have to make his move soon. The Brown Rider gave himself some distance between him and her, and his head came above water for him to get some air. He also realized who else was in the lake with him: Tanly.
B'ren had often teased Tanly and she did the same to him, but it was never a serious relationship between them. B'ren was the type of man who simply wanted to get a woman between the furs, but could never bring himself to openly pursue any type of serious relationship. Grinning, then slipping back below the surface of the water, he swam as fast as he could towards her before grabbing her leg and pulled her down.

Tanly had finally settled down again, unaware of the danger that lurked below the dark water. She tread water for a few more seconds and was about to flip back over on her back when something brushed her leg. She froze.
The green rider screamed in surprise as she was pulled under. She hadn't been expecting it and therefore hadn't thought to tak a deep breath before disappearing below the moonlit water.

B'ren saw the surprised, horrified look on Tanly's face as she came down to his eye level, then simply grabbed her by her cheeks and pulled her close, planting his lips on hers and breathing some air into her lungs before winking at her and swam up and away, towards the surface.
Once he came topside, he simply laughed and started to swim towards the shore. Catching sight of her boots and towel, B'ren continued to strive for the shore until his feet touched bottom, then made his way until he reached the sand and quickly grabbed Tanly's stuff. Unable to fight the grin on his face, he ran over to where his own gear was, and waited. His body was wet and glistened in the moonlight, aware that he didn't have a single stitch of clothing on.

Tanly's eyes widened when she finally saw who was in front of her. She came back to the surface gasping for air, although her cheeks were slightly red from his helping "kiss". She grumbled softly. Of all the people out that night it had to be B'ren.
"No!" she cried when she saw where he was heading. She'd never get her things back if he got a hold of them. She tried to beat him back to her boots, but he had a head start on her and was longer legged then her. She frowned as she stepped onto shore too late. She raced after him.
"B'ren!" she shouted. "Give those back." She slid to a stop, but her face flushed when she finally realized that he didn't have any clothes on. Of course, standing in the moonlight she hadn't thought about how the water had made her clothes begin to cling to her now wet body either. "Better yet. Keep the towel. Just give me my boots," she said, turning her back on him, hoping he'd take the hint. Although she truly doubted it. She knew B'ren's reputation.

B'ren watched as Tanly came to a halt, and thought he saw her blush when she saw him without any clothes on, then asked for her boots back but he could keep the towel as she turned around. "You know, Tanly," he said. "I did bring my own clothes, so I don't need the towel. Although it looks like you could do with a change of clothes before you catch cold." He smirked, but the pretty Green Rider wouldn't have seen it. "It's not like you haven't seen me without clothing before, either."
B'ren took the towel in both hands, then flicked it at Tanly's backside, grinning, then dropped the towel before grabbing his breeches and slipping them on. He then reached down to put his boots on, and finally grabbed his tunic but simply slung it over his shoulder. "Too bad you weren't invited to the dragon poker game, sweetheart," he said playfully. "Although I think we'd have to make the stakes interesting."

Tanly inwardly groaned. He was right. Her clothes were plastered to her body. "I'm just fine thank you very much," she answered, keeping her back to him for a minute. She looked over her shoulder at him. "And as I recall, you didn't get too far that night," she teased him. Sure, she'd seen him with no clothes before, but he hadn't been able to coax her into joining him.
The green rider squealed in surprise as she jumped. "B'ren!" she shouted, turning around. She quickly caught herself from staring too long. Unfortunately the brown rider was good looking but dangerous to start to like as more then a friend. "You know I'd beat you if I was allowed to play," she said sweetly. She arched a finely curved brow. "Really? And just how would you make it more interesting?"

B'ren merely grinned roguishly at Tanly. "No, I didn't get too far that night because neither of us didn't have that much to drink. But as far as you beating me in a game of dragon poker? Ha!" The Brown Rider had to laugh. "If I recall, I beat you rather handily in our last game, even though you tried to accuse me of cheating." Smirking at the pretty rider, he couldn't keep the infectious grin off his face. "As far as raising the stakes...well..." He paused for grand effect. "I think I'll let you figure it out." He gestured at her wet clothing that was plastered to her skin, and winked before heading back to his weyr.
"Wouldn't do to stay out much longer, Tanly," he called over his shoulder. "I'm sure you'd have a fine time explaining to our esteemed Healers why you were sniffling and sneezing. You think I'm a terrible flirt, C'olt's almost as bad as I am. Except I think I'm better at it." B'ren started whistling a dancing melody as he shuffled off.

Tanly rolled her eyes. "And I shall make sure I don't have much to drink when you're around," she shot back with a sweet smile. She narrowed her storm gray eyes. "You did cheat!" she exclaimed. "That's the only reason you beat me. You couldn't beat me if we played honestly." The green rider was thankful it was dark enough to cover her blush. "And who's to say I would agree to those terms?" she asked curiously.
Tanly absently brushed her hair out of her face. "Well, you know I was enjoying myself quite nicely until you showed up," she said, looking around to see if he had finally dropped her boots. She did manage to get her towel though. She frowned. She'd met C'olt alright and he was a flirt. But she had admit, B'ren might be right. Although they were both good. "I'm not gonna get the sniffles, but I would like my boots back," she said, hurrying after him.

B'ren guffawed when Tanly kept insisting he cheated the last time the two had played dragon poker, and couldn't beat her fair and square. "I did beat you fair and square the last time. Not my fault you were distracted. But what's a game of dragon poker without wine?"
He let Tanly catch up to him, and finally handed the Green Rider her boots. "Oh, but I'd hate for you to get the sniffles, Tanly," he said with mock worry, putting a bit of a pout into his voice. "I'd have to protect you from the big, bad, mean C'olt." B'ren fought poorly to keep from snickering, which gave way to a hearty laugh. "In fact, if you want to redeem yourself from the last time I claimed your marks, why don't we head either to your weyr or to mine for a few hands? Our dragons are asleep, aren't they?"

Tanly pulled a face. She had no doubt that B'ren would keep claiming his innocence. Although she couldn't prove he had cheated. "I wasn't distracted," she shot back. "I didn't even drink that much wine."
She gladly took her boots back and pulled them on before he changed his mind. There was no way he'd be able to get them now. Well, at least not easily. "Oh my big strong brown rider," she laughed. "Having to protect me from the scary Healer." She couldn't help but giggle. Tanly raised a brow. "Tonight?" she asked, but then shrugged. "Alright, you're on, but give me a chance to get into something dry." She didn't see any harm in a couple hands. Besides, it might be fun and she wasn't tired yet.
