physical description: M'lym is tall, standing at about six feet even, and he has a muscular build thanks to his turns of dragonriding. He is broad-shouldered and square jawed, certainly a very masculine looking fellow. His skin is lightly tanned due to the time he spends outside training. He keeps his straight black hair cut short, like a good dragonrider should--although in the absence of Thread, the custom is useless. He has dark brown eyes set above an aquiline nose. M'lym is usually clean shaven, but he is sometimes seen with a bit of stubble on his chin. As far as clothing goes, he spares little consideration for style, and wears the most practical garb he can find. He is often seen wearing his flight jacket and pants, and he only dresses up if he absolutely has to.
personality: Jolly, light-hearted, affable, jocund...all words that do not describe M'lym. Serious and reserved, M'lym is not in general a very friendly person. It isn't uncommon for the cooks to mutter after him that he needs to loosen up and learn to have fun. Dour, austere...that's more like it.
He is not necessarily a pessimist, but he is certainly not an optimist--call him a realist. M'lym believes that bad things will most certainly happen in life, but that one must be prepared rather than wallowing around and whining about it. He is a strict, hard worker and he detests laziness. Carelessness and sloppiness are other pet peeves. M'lym likes order and routine; he is definitely not a spontaneous person. He is conservative, the exception being his support of female greenriders, as a result of his mother being one.
M'lym possess loyalty--to his family, to his Wingriders, to his Weyr--but in his personal life he finds it difficult to maintain friends. This is partly because he's just too critical of everyone, and he spares no words in letting them know it. He's not one to employ white lies. As for romance, M'lym has experienced little of it in his forty turns--most women conclude that he's married to his work and give up. He has no problems with affection or deep devotion, but he doesn't like the idea of losing his head in outright love. He does have a fondness for the fairer sex, and he tends to be less harsh on them then he is towards his fellow men, but he isn't exactly prince charming either. For one thing he has difficulty showing his affection outwardly. He has the same problem with his son, Edilon. Of course, it doesn't help that the boy has so many differences from his father.
Towards his Wingriders, he is attentive but demanding. He will listen to serious complaints, but he won't tolerate what he classifies as "whining," any sort of complaint about being cold, tired, hungry, etc. He expects only the best from them and he usually doesn't give praise, believing that there is always room for improvement. M'lym does care about his wingriders deeply, but he isn't the type of Wingleader to be seen having drinks with them after training, either.
history:
M'lym is a Nova rider born and bred. He was born to a Brownrider and a Greenrider. The Greenrider, Ynis, was fond of children and decided to carry this one to term before she was rendered infertile by going between. The parents were happy to have a healthy baby boy, and they fostered him to a trusted friend in the Lower Caverns. The rider parents visited their child often. M'lym, then known as Merilym, had a happy, typical weyrbrat childhood. He was, however, not the most adventurous of weyrbrats and he was the one always telling his friends "don't do that, it's not safe!" or tattling to the Headwoman when they did stupid things.
He began standing at age twelve, and at his second clutch, he Impressed to the proud bronze Iverasth. When he wasn't too busy caring for the growing bronze, he practiced his future leadership skills by lording it over the other Weyrlings, even those older than he was. Then his mother gave him a good talking to about respecting those lower ranked, and he begrudgingly lost some of his ego.
As he got older, M'lym did lose his arrogance, but his serious, hard working nature only grew. Even at a young age, he was known as one of the more reliable Wingriders. Although he was not so full of himself now, he did have grand fantasies about becoming Weyrleader, and when Cybele became Weyrwoman Iveroth chased in her Queen's first Flight. Naturally, the inexperienced bronze lost, and M'lym's ambitions simmered down after a couple of Turns.
At the age of 24, M'lym met a young woman named Lonna who was a failed candidate working in the lower caverns as a cook. A few weeks into their blossoming relationship she discovered that she was pregnant, and both agreed that she should keep the child. About nine months later, Lonna went into labor on Turn's End Eve. A small but healthy baby boy was born who they named Edilon.
Two turns later, M'lym's wingsecond's dragon was injured by a misplaced flame during the Weyr games. The unfortunate incident led to M'lym's promotion to the position. M'lym settled into the new rank easily, enjoying the leadership position. However, as a result the relationship between him and Lonna deteriorated, since she complained that he was always too busy to be attentive to her.
One of his worst memories is his son's fifth year, when Edilon fell ill and developed a high fever. The Healer predicted that the boy would die if the fever didn't break. It was a very tense time, but finally Edilon recovered. The incident scared M'lym more than he ever admitted.
Several turns later, illness struck again, but on a much more serious scale. Both of his parents and their dragons were killed by cloudlung. Now M'lym is doing whatever he can to help the Weyr in the time of need, and trying to keep his wingrider's spirits up.

If dragonrider:
dragon name: Iverasth
dragon age: 27
dragon size:
physical description: Iverasth is a large bronze built more for endurance than for agility. He is not graceful, but he is strong. His hide is a coppery shade of bronze, with darker patches on his belly. Having escaped injury in a time without Thread, his hide is unmarked by scars.
personailty: A bit more brash than his rider, Iverasth is very confident. And the line between confidence and arrogance is pretty thin in this dragon. He is proud and aware of his position as a leader. He is a fair leader, but doesn't like to have his authority questioned. At times he can have a temper, but on those occasions M'lym can calm him down.
