About you:
name: Kendrall
e-mail: KMHazelton@gmail.com
age: 33
About the character:
name: C’olt (Colt, full name Colthan)
pronunciation: Colt
age: 19 (5.27)
rank: Jr Journeyman Healer / Green Weyrling
gender: Male
orientation: Straight
Family (name, age, rank, location, at least)
mother: Bethan, 49 turns, Sr Journeywoman Healer
father: Collin, 52 turns, Sr Journeyman Woodcrafter
sibling: Collette, 13 turns, Apprentice Healer
relative: Tara, 17 turns, Apprentice Beast Healer/Dragon Candidate
weyrmate/lover: None
children: None
other: None
physical description: C’olt is tall, about six feet even, and his body has the kind of lean feline suppleness that speaks of grace and strength. His hair, long and perfectly straight, is a honey blond color that is still a rarity on Pern, and he is highly aware of its unusual beauty, so he often wears it loose in a silken waterfall down his back. His eyes are light green, like sunlight shining through a new leaf, and skin is a light honeyed tan that complements both his hair and eyes perfectly. Arching eyebrows rise above his eyes and sculptured cheekbones, bisected by a graceful nose. His mouth is neither particularly small or large, but it, along with his slightly pointed chin, complements his face to present an entire image of perfectly masculine beauty.
His clothes are loose, comfortable, and always fashionable, cut to present him in the best possible light, and often showing plenty of his muscled chest and/or abdomen. His favorite colors are black, gold, red, and oddly...pink. Not a bright pink, but more of a coral or salmon shade. Apparently, it complements his skin tone. But strangely, his wardrobe never includes white.
personality: C’olt is the type of boy that gives the weyr a reputation for promiscuity. He is a terrible flirt, his weakness is women, and only beautiful ones at that. He’s very shallow, he would never look twice at an ugly girl, and has no problem making ribald comments to the objects of his affection. He often completely ignores others of his own gender. The only thing he loves more than pretty girls is himself. He knows he looks good, and he expects everyone else to know it too. He definitely has an arrogant streak.
Oddly enough, he’s actually quite intelligent, especially with math, science, and history, which is what made him choose healing as his craft. He can actually be quite compassionate to those in pain. Of course it doesn’t hurt if a pretty girl is involved..... If you manage to stand him long enough to get past his shallow exterior, he’s not a bad guy. He is loyal to his friends, and has a protective streak, especially towards his sister Colette. He would do anything, including physically harm others, to keep her safe. He can be stubborn and thick-headed, and has a tendency to see things in black and white. He can be loud and obnoxious, but never talks about his feelings in a serious way. He’s always joking, but if you listen to what he’s actually saying, you can find out a lot about him.
His one drawback is his leukophobia, often despising anything white in color. Colt and his family were visiting Forest’s Edge Hold during the rainy season when he was much younger, and en route he and his runnerbeast were separated from the caravan when an unseasonable heavy, dense fog settled in. Visibility reduced to zero, neither he nor his runner were able to discern which direction they were going, and nearly wound up becoming lost in the nearby woods and at the mercy of the wild animals, viciously attacked by them. Had it not been for his father finding him in the nick of time, the boy would not have survived. Colt spent the next six sevendays recovering from that ordeal, both physically and mentally. What didn't help was spending time in the infirmary surrounded by nothing but white, reminding him of the fog...until his mother moved him into a more colorful environment to speed his mental recovery.
history: Colthan, or "Colt" as he preferred to be called, is the older child born to Collin and Bethan of Ryuu Hold. He never did cry very much when he was an infant or toddler, often instead looking in wonder at the world around him. He was an independent child, and liked to be off having adventures on his own rather than socializing with the other children his age. Even that young, it was clear he’d grow up handsome, and the Hold ladies were always fussing over him.
Still, he was an intelligent and playful child, and he might have been a completely different person has he not had the accident when he was seven Turns old. He and his family were visiting at Forest’s Edge Hold during the rainy season. Collin had opted to take his family with him as part of a caravan for a month-long visit; Colt had been allowed to ride a runnerbeast by himself as long as he stayed near the caravan. It was during the return trip when a a dense fog rolled in, unusual for the time of year, immediately causing a severe lack in visibility. Colt had stopped to allow his runnerbeast to rest momentarily, but gave the beast a little too much time to regain its strength. As a result, when the fog grew denser, he lost sight of the caravan...panicked, he tried to travel in what he thought was the direction the wagons had moved, but in reality wound up heading off to the north and west back towards the forest. Without warning, Colt was attacked by a group of wild beasts and lost consciousness. He didn't wake up until much later in the infirmary, and as soon as his eyes opened he panicked, seeing nothing but white all around him. The healers tried to get him to calm down and tell him that he was safe within the confines of Ryuu but he didn't listen to them...until his mother, Bethan, managed to get him moved to a different part of the infirmary where white wasn't the predominant color. That's when Bethan gently told her son what had happened - how he was found unconscious and bleeding by Collen and quickly taken to safety in order to recover.
After having felt the fear of losing her firstborn child, Bethan seemed to decide to make up for lost time time by spoiling Colthan rotten. Which might not have been a big deal, except every one else did too. His teachers loved him for his intelligence, and the older he got, the more the opposite gender paid attention to him as well. He was well known and loved by everyone around the Hold, able to get whatever he wanted. He enjoyed it, but at the same time, somewhat resented it. The only person who ever treated him normally was his younger sister Colette, and he did everything he could to protect her, even taking fighting lessons and getting in shape once the Hold boys started to pick on her. They thought him weak because of his good looks, and he aimed to prove them wrong.
When he was twelve, he apprenticed to the Healer craft on the suggestion of his parents. especially his mother. She knew he was intelligent, and of course, loved him too much to see that he was becoming a bit of a brat. He passed the entrance exams with flying colors, leading the healers to remark that he was one of the brightest pupils they’d ever had. Which meant that now, even in his craft, he was the favorite. This earned him a lot of perks of course, which he enjoyed, especially when he began to be interested in girls. But he still felt resentful of their expectations, he felt he was allowed to be a normal person. He did like girls and pursued them frequently, though fewer accepted his advances than he would like you to believe. But the fact that he never impregnated anyone was more luck than anything.
Sadly, his master was just as arrogant as he was, and proud of his brilliant pupil, so Colt’s pride only grew, but so did his bitterness, as if the playful happy child of his past was yearning to get out. He received his journeyman’s knots at the age of seventeen, and his parents were so proud of him. But Colt somewhat felt that it was an empty accomplishment, that he was only doing as expected, and it brought him less joy than it should have.
But then, something happened. Search came to the Crafthall before he left on his first assignment. Of course, Search had been many times before, and at his age, it was nothing more than a minor inconvenience. But then, the dragon spoke to him. Asked him to come to the weyr. He realized that at the weyr, he would have a chance to do something unexpected of him, and dragonriders were a breed apart, weren’t they? That stirred his pride. So off to the weyr he went. It was unfortunate that the Hatching was so near. Some time as a Candidate might have shown him a thing or two. But he was still in quarantine when the dragons began to hum, and of course they let him out of the infirmary to Stand. There he Impressed green Aromath. Weyrling life may have dulled his arrogance somewhat, but Aromath certainly hasn’t helped his flirtatiousness. It has been almost a turn since she fixed him with her rainbow regard, they are soon to be put in a wing, and the green may rise any day.
