Meera sat in the Dining Cavern with a hide and charcoal stick in hand. She sighed softly as she tried to find the right words for the tune that she had stuck in her head. The green rider had a few free moments, and she always loved to sing and write songs. Although this one wasn't coming together very well.
It will come. Just don't try so hard, Vanlith crooned softly. You always get it figured out in the end.
Meera grinned at her dragon's words. I'll keep that in mind, she chuckled.

M'lym was walking through the dining hall, carrying a mug of klah. He was just taking a break from training. As he passed Meera, he smiled. It looked like she was having trouble with something.
"I've seen that look on my son's face when he's having trouble with a drawing," He said, stopping in front of her table. "Anything I can do to help?" he asked. M'lym was the last person to be an expert about art or music, but maybe talking would help.

Meera hadn't noticed M'lym walk up and jumped a little when he spoke. The green rider flashed him a smile when she realized who it was. She sat up straighter and put her charcoal stick down.
"Maybe," she said. "I've had this tune stuck in my head for days now, but I just can't find the right words to put with it," she said, looking up at him. Meera wasn't sure if he'd be able to help or not, but either way a distraction might like Vanlith had told her.

M'lym sat down across from Meera, taking a sip of his klah. So he had been right, it was artist's block. Now when M'lym had a problem he usually took a swim in the lake or went flying with his dragon, something physical, but he didn't think that would help with music.
"What's the song about?" He asked curiously. "If it's not too personal," he added, remembering how defensive Edilon always got when he tried to pry about his drawings.

Meera tapped the charcoal stick on the table. She had words running through her head, but nothing that made sense. She sighed softly and looked back up at M'lym. She thought it was sweet that he was at least trying to help.
"No, it's not too personal," she smiled. "It's supposed to be a fun little song about the dragons and the firelizards. I was hoping it would be one that kids could enjoy, but I just can't think of any words to put with the tunes." When she had first become a rider she had been hesitant about letting anyone see her songs, but not anymore. Everyone was also so friendly.

"Ah...a nursery rhyme." M'lym, as a father, had a surprising knowledge of them. His attention to detail meant that he remembered not only Wing formations, but useless information like "Mother fire-lizard" tales. He'd had to recite all of them to Edilon when he was younger.
"I wish I could still make my son happy with one of those. Now that he's older, it seems like everything I say just upsets him." M'lym sighed. He hadn't really meant to say that out loud, but Meera seemed like someone he could trust with his concerns.

Meera nodded, her silvery eyes holding surprise. Not everyone understood her songs. "Exactly. I like simple ones that anyone can learn." She remembered making up little songs that her siblings picked up on. She had even caught her parents whistling them a couple of times.
The green rider gave M'lym a sympathetic smile. "They all have to grow up sometime," she gently. "Although from what I've seen it's much easier when they're young." She didn't actually have any children of her own, but that's what she'd heard. She was glad now that M'lym had stopped to talk to her. She liked talking to him.

M'lym smiled a little at Meera's words. That's what they all said. Truth be told, he did enjoy seeing his son grow up in some ways. Now if only the boy would Impress a dragon. "I guess I should be glad I get to see hm grow up," he told Meera. "Once when he was a babe he caught a high fever, and the Healer thought it might be cloudlung..." he trailed off, thinking back to that awful time. Well, obviously it wasn't cloudlung, because Edilon was still here.
"Anyway. We could use a cheerful song these days," he finished, nodding firmly. Then he remembered something from his talk with G'rett. "I don't know if you take projects from other people or not, but I'd be in the market for a song about how riders need to work together and forget their differences. Or maybe you could work that in to this song you're working on," he suggested. There was no better way to teach people than with a Harper song.

Meera smile, her eyes dancing. She brushed her hair out of her face as she listened. She cocked her head to the side. "Hmm, I see how that would have its advantages too," she agreed. "I've never been a mother, so I don't truthfully know, but I shall take your word for it." The green rider shuttered a little. "You must have been terrified," she said softly. She couldn't imagine finding out your child was sick and may die. That would be heartbreaking.
The young woman nodded. "I do sometimes," she answered. Meera was always up for new ideas for songs. Any little help was great. Her eyes widened a bit. "That's a perfect idea!" she said. "And I'll get right on that song. And see if I can't pull together a fun little tune as well." She was looking forward to working on a couple new songs in her free time. And the added advantage had been it had been M'lym's suggestion, so she got to spend a bit of time with the bronze rider.

M'lym loved watching Meera's face light up when she got a new idea. The greenrider was so expressive, her emotions easily readable on her face. Almost the exact opposite of the way he tried to act, not letting anyone guess what he was thinking. "I'm glad I could help," he said sincerely.
Well, that was probably his cue to leave. Except that M'lym didn't want to get up. Looking down, he saw that his klah was still mostly full, and probably getting cold now. "So what have you been up to lately besides songwriting?" he asked, making small talk. He was just a Wingleader, interested in the well being of one of the riders, right?

Meera continued to smile as she jotted down a few notes so she wouldn't forget. She had forgotten about her klah that was still sitting by her hand. "You were very helpful," she smiled, looking up at him again, her whole face still lit up. She couldn't wait to write the songs now and let M'lym read them. She hoped he would like that.
See? You just had to be patient, Vanlith teased her rider. And look who found you and helped. The green wasn't above trying to set her rider up.
The green rider rolled her eyes. Stop it, Van. M'lym and I are just friends. She glanced over at the bronze rider. Or were they? She wasn't so sure.
She shrugged a little. "Drills mainly. Although Van keeps telling me I'm not washing her enough," she chuckled. 'But then again, you know how dragons are. How about you? How's Iverasth?"
