He looked down on her, surprised by her smallness, at her mix of delicacy and strength. She was barely a weight in his arms. In the moonlight, he could tell this close that she was as pretty as his imaginings made her, though he could not tell the color of her eyes. His face was unguarded, and a tender smile graced it for a moment. "Don't the harpers say, 'All is fair in love and war'?" he said, his voice gone quiet. He brushed an errant strand of hair from her cheek with his thumb, perhaps letting his hand linger a bit on her smooth skin. Then he bent down, before he could change his mind and kissed her gently on the lips.
Arkysk had never felt such feelings in his bonded before, but he knew they were good feelings. He crooned happily, and the noise seemed to startle Arktos out of his reverie. "No, what would be unfair is if I were to now drop you into the water. But I would never be so unsportsmanlike." He set her down on her feet somewhat reluctantly.

Kiyoni finally stopped struggling and actually started to enjoy being n Arktos' arms. She didn't know why, but she liked the feel of his strong arms around her slim waist. Even just the gentle brush against her arm raised shivers along her skin. "Mmm, they do," she agreed quietly, noticing that her voice was a bit hoarse. Kiyoni closed her blue eyes at his gentle touch, not seeming to notice that his hand lingered long then need be. She was surprised by the jolt that went through her when his lips touched hers. She moaned softly and leaned into his kiss.
Rivi chittered happily as he watched his Pet. Thankfully for Kiyoni Elliwodth was still asleep. She managed to keep a frown off her face as he pulled away. "That would be very mean," she agreed. She stayed in his arms even after he set her back down.

He was surprised by the reaction to his kiss, but also pleased beyond all recollection. He had been worried she would find him too forward, but that was obviously not the case. The realization that she might, in fact, share his odd burgeoning feelings was like an unexpected gift, and Arktos was awed to receive it. But he wasn't really sure what to do with it.
For the moment, she seemed disinclined to leave the circle of his arms, and he found himself equally disinclined to let her, instead relishing the feeling of closeness. The wind chilled his damp skin but he barely noticed, standing as he was, stroking her hair in idle fascination over its silky texture. He looked up at the stars again, the sky was streaked with meteors almost as if an artists paintbrush was blurring the stars. "You know, I have always found the stars very beautiful, but they are cold and distant. I have decided it is much better when something beautiful is nearby," he said, looking at her, his voice gone slightly rough.

Kiyoni silently wished he would kiss her again, but she didn't quite have the nerves to kiss him. She was still trying to sort out her feelings for this man she had just met and she didn't want to chance scaring him off.
Although she couldn't help but notice that he wasn't letting her go either. Which suited her just fine. She closed her eyes and just relished the feel of his hands in her hair. She soon found herself leaning her head against his chest, not caring that they were both dripping wet. Kiyoni quickly looked up at his words. "They are beautiful," she agreed. Her face flushed as she smiled at his words.

They stood there for several moments, neither wishing to move, to disturb the spell the night air had wrought. Arkysk padded slowly out of the water and lay on the bank watching. Arktos could thing of nothing to say.
Suddenly, the piece was shattered by the sudden arrival of Forge, who had been watching the Barracks while his pet was out. He showed only an image of a girl crying, and something about crawlies in her bed. Arktos frowned, more annoyed than usual about having his evening disturbed. He released his hold on Kiyoni.
"I must go, Candidates are making trouble. But I will see you tomorrow?" he said, more of a question as he sloshed out of the lake and grabbed his towel. Suddenly, her turned back and enfolded her in an embrace, kissing her a little more forcefully than before. He smiled, and sloshing his way back out of the lake, he jogged up the hill and disappeared into the Barracks. Arkysk followed more slowly, butting Kiyoni on the leg in a canine-like gesture of affection before following his bonded.

Kiyoni stood and just enjoyed watching the stars and being in Arktos' arms. She couldn't think of anything to say, but that didn't bother her. She was just enjoying his company and the silence was nice. She could get used to this.
She looked up in surprise when another firelizard appeared. Rivi cheeped a greeting to the new arrival. Kiyoni wasn't quite sure what the new flit was trying to tell Arktos.
She nodded, trying to keep her disappointment to herself. It wasn't his fault that he had to get back to the candidates. "I'll see you tomorrow for sure," she answered. The green rider was surprised when he came back and kissed her. This time more forceful. Her face was flushed as he pulled away and hurried out of the water. She touched her lips in disbelief and quickly looked down when Arkysk headbutted her. Was she ready for this? She sure hoped so, because she sure liked Arktos. She soon walked out of the lake and headed up to her weyr.
