Kiyoni waited patiently for Mordecai to return. She knew some took longer then others and she wasn't in a big hurry. She smiled when he returned, but could see the worry in his parents' faces.
"That's correct. Elliwodth believes your son would make a good candidate." The search rider listened quietly. She couldn't blame him for his worries. "I assure you that those riders have been dealt with. There is nothing to fear from them now." She nodded again. "Weyrling training can be tough, but very few are ever lost forever. Injured yes. But of course you can get injured doing anything. But you are always welcome to come visit him," the rider said with a smile. She could understand their worry and concern.
Elliwodth snorted softly when he said he didn't trust dragons. Kiyoni touched her green's shoulder. "I assure you that we don't mean you and your family any harm. I will do everything that I can to make sure that Mordecai is not injured in anyway," she said.

Amicai said nothing, but instead looked at Mordecai and arched an eyebrow. The younger man knew what that meant; his father made his case known, but ultimately the decision would be up to him. Mordecai closed his eyes for a moment to reflect on the matter, taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly before he opened his eyes. "It's a chance I'll have to take, father," Mordecai said hesitantly. "Besides, this could be my only opportunity to explore the rest of the continent. Who knows? Maybe someday, I can chart the lands beyond the sea." He shrugged. "I know you don't trust dragons and their Riders, father, but is there any reason why you couldn't trust your own son, if he were to become a Rider?"
Amicai regarded his son for a moment, then gave a resigned sigh. "I don't like this, son, but you're old enough to make up your own mind. Whatever decision you go with, your mother and I will support you." The miner wrapped his arms around his son, as did his mother; for several long moments the family embraced each other before letting go. "You'd...better go and grab the rest of your belongings," Amicai said. "We'll ship the rest to you later."
It took Mordecai the better part of a candlemark before he came back into view, dragging a small wooden chest behind him. Setting it down near Elliwodth, he nodded at Kiyoni. "I'm ready," he said.

The Search rider wisely remained silent. She had made her point. Now it was up to them. She couldn't change their minds or force them into anything. Although she did hope that they would be willing to give Mordecai a chance. She couldn't blame them for being worried though. Kiyoni watched as Mordecai disappeared again.
The search rider was checking Elliwodth's straps when Mordecai returned. Kiyoni flashed him a smile. "Alright then. We'll just get your trunk secured to Elli's straps then we can go." She looked over at his parents. "I give you my word that I will watch out for him," she promised as Elliwodth lay down to make it easier to get the trunk secured.

Amicai and Morgan both said nothing, but could only watch as Mordecai helped secure his belongings. The young girl who'd been Searched - also now a Candidate - brought what little belongings she had, then with the help of Mordecai hoisted herself onto Elliwodth's back before the young Harper likewise mounted up. Looking at his parents, he finally spoke. "I'll be fine. This is a new adventure for me, and I'm not afraid to face this. Besides, Searchrider Kiyoni will make sure she watches out for me like she said. I have a feeling that she won't be the only one."
Somehow, Mordecai knew that whatever lay ahead in his future, his life would never be the same. But he showed no sign of fear or uncertainty. Uncharted territory awaited him.

Kiyoni helped them both get situated. Neither had much or real big, so they wouldn't over burden Elliwodth. The green was patient as she waited for them to finish securing everything before mounting themselves. Kiyoni swung on behind Mordecai.
"You both are welcome to visit the Weyr," she assured his worried parents. She didn't know if it would help them if they saw the Weyr or not, but she wanted to at least give them the option. "Alright, are you both ready?" she asked them, making sure before giving Elliwodth the okay to fly.
