M'thos was surprised by the determination..and almost..excitement in their eyes when it came to Threadfall. He thought the whole thing sounded terrifying. But they were weyrbred, the duty of dragonriders had been instilled in them since birth, and he could see how that could override the fear. He wondered if he'd ever be like that. He saw the harpers in the corner and immediately was interested. Although he knew neither of his friends would be in that group. Yuan was an archivist, and Kratos wasn't even a harper.
K'von grinned at his brother and friend as he wiped the gravy off his shoulder. "D;you guys want to ask some of the girls to dance?" ***
Arktos grinned widely. "I would...I'll be sure to let you know how much later," he said with raised eyebrows. As soon as people saw the harpers setting up, tables were pushed back and people began to look for partners. "When you're finished eating, shall we have a dance? I promise I have practiced and will not step on your feet." That was about all he could promise, but he figured it was an accomplishment nonetheless. ***
Cybele found T'tarel utterly charming, she had to admit...well she always had really, but not more than any of the others till now. Perhaps it was the wine, or perhaps it was his kindness. She had seen little kindness in her days of late, and little pleasure of of any kind. She was the Weyrwoman, and everything fell to her shoulders once J'nel had died, and she longed to share that burden. "Well, T'tarel, would you share a dance with me this evening?" she heard herself saying. Argent chirped encouragement and Cybele gave an inward shrug. Perhaps tonight, she could be just a woman, and not a figurehead.
****
Q'del felt himself smile. Toniel..joking? It was almost surreal, yet it also brought unexpected happiness. She was not unreachable then. He laughed in between bites of some deliciously sharp cheese. "I suspect you're being modest, but I will take your word for it. My mother forced me into dancing lessons." He made a face. "Not pleasant for me. I was an awkward teen to say the least." He had grown over a span in just a few months and hardly could walk down the stairs without an accident for a while. He was more than glad he'd grown out of the lanky unfinished phase.
****
Quindara eagerly returned his kiss, though she was ever mindful of the bond with the sleeping silver. Luckily, Artemth was exhausted, and the thoughts were all formless and slow. She ran her hands into G'rett's hair. She was glad he left his long, so much more fun to play with. Her teeth grazed his lower lips and her eyes sparkled playfully. "I fear this will be a difficult Turn for me. I seem to have trouble keeping my hands off you."
****
Now that Q'del was safely away with Toniel, Tesni smoothed out her dress. Noticing the harpers setting up, she grinned. Time to find a likely someone to dance with. She felt her eyes stray to some of the older boys among the new weyrlings. Well why not? It wasn't as if she planning on bedding them..not that it hadn't been a while. But some of them were not much younger than she was. In fact, there was one, she hadn't Searched him, but she'd seen him Impress that little white. He was nice and tall, and had lovely black. He looked to be about twenty. Perfect. She tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me, but would you mind having a dance with me? I'm Tesni."

Kiyoni laughed. "Well, aren't you in a playful mood tonight?" she teased, but there was smile on her face. The search rider glanced toward the Harpers. This was going to be an excellent evening. She turned back to her mate, her eyes dancing. "Of course," she smiled. "I love dancing and don't worry. I'll make sure to keep my feet out of the way," she teased him, but wasn't too worried. It would be fun way or the other. Besides, this way she got to be close to Arktos.
***
T'tarel was glad to see that Cybele had relaxed a bit. Things had seemed to calm down and hopefully the Feast could get rolling. He smiled at her. She looked so much prettier when she was smiling. A frown and worry lines didn't suit her at all. As long as she was willing to have his friendship he'd do his best to make sure she always had a reason to smile. Everyone needed that and the Weyrwoman was no exception. He couldn't really figure out why everyone seemed to treat her like she was totally different from them. Sure, she was Weyrwoman and deserved respect, but she was also human and needed to be shown love and friendship too. The bronzer nodded with a grin. "I would love to, dear Weyrwoman."
***
Calyssa looked up at J'sen as the Harpers set up. "Could we dance?" she asked hopefully. She loved dancing and being able to dance with J'sen was just an added perk in her opinion. But of course if he didn't want to she wouldn't make him.
***
S'tex got up and made his way down the table. He figured he might as well snag a partner before everyone was taken. "Hi Cheriss," he said when he saw the other red rider. "Would you care to dance?" He hoped D'mar wouldn't mind him asking his sister. He liked the twins and dancing sounded fun.

The food fight had served it's purpose, it had broken most of the tension in their fellow weyrlings. A huge grin covered Cheriss's face as she wiped the pudding off her face. Luckily none had made it to her red dress, but she did have something in her hair. Blushing deeply she tried to get it out with no one noticing.
After a few tries she finally managed to slid the piece of food out from her short hair. D'mar had joined her at the new table, and was busy brushing the food off his good tunic. A shared smile flashed between them as Cheriss reached over to help her twin. "That was fun, D'mar. But I don't think everyone enjoyed it as much. Do you think we'll ever fit in here?" She asked as she looked around her. So many smiling faces, so many happy couples and families.
D'mar was about to respond when S'tex asked Cheriss to dance. A mock-scowl took a moment to be replace by a grin as D'mar waited for his twin's usual response. A look of surprise widened his eyes as his sister stood and nodded, "I don't know how to dance that well, S'tex, but if you're willing to suffer a few stepped on toes I'll give it a whirl."
Jaw gaping, D'mar just sat there in awe of his sister. Normally she shot guys down for even hinting at dancing. What was Pern coming to?

S'tex flashed D'mar a smile. He didn't want the green weyrling to think badly of him. He knew how protective he could get of Calyssa. Which bothered his sister, but he couldn't help it.
The bronze weyrling smiled at Cheriss as he held his hand toward her. "I think I can suffer through that," he smiled. "I've had my toes stepped on a lot. Besides, it's just fun. No one will care if we're good or not."
S'tex led her toward the fast assembled dance floor. He caught his sister giving him a surprised look, but S'tex pretended not to notice. He figured she'd catch him later and ask a million questions. Until then, he was going to enjoy his dance with Cheriss.

Tossing her twin a smile, Cheriss took S'tex's hand. When she noticed he was scowling she stuck her tongue out at him. She knew why he scowled, but she wouldn't let that ruin her fun. If D'mar was too shy to ask someone to dance, it wasn't her fault now was it? A smile lit up her face as S'tex lead her to the dance floor.
"I hope I do okay," She said with a nervous smile. "I don't dance all that often. They don't call me a tomboy for nothing you know." As they spun around she noticed the curious looks they were given. Surely she wasn't that horrible of a dancer. Blushing self consciously Cheriss looked down at her booted feet. A deeper blush stole over her cheeks as she realized that anyone could see them now, since she had gathered her skirt in one hand. See? This is why you don't dance. This is why you don't wear dresses. You are out of your league little girl.

S'tex ignored everyone as he led Cheriss onto the floor. He didn't really care if she was a good dancer or not. He just figured it would be fun to try and he knew Cheriss and got along with her. And in his opinion she was pretty.
He shook his head. "I'm sure you'll do fine," he smiled, his blue eyes dancing, matching his dark blue tunic perfectly. "Just follow my lead and don't worry about what anyone else thinks," he said. S'tex caught where her gaze had trailed too and gently coaxed her to look back up. "You look beautiful. Even in your boots," he assured her gently.

J'sen led Calyssa by the hand onto the dance floor, then put one hand on her waist and held her other in a formal dance position. He waited for her to put her hand on his shoulder, then started to lead her through the cadence in a series of slow, long sweeps. He was mindful of where the other dancers were, but relied on his peripheral vision so he could keep his eyes on his dance partner and best friend. J'sen gave her a warm smile.
--------------------------------------------------
G'rett laughed heartily when Quindara told him she would find it difficult to keep her hands off him during for one Turn. "I'm sure we'll find a way to manage," he said, giving his beloved a wink. "Knowing the Weyrwoman, she'll probably keep you busy enough with learning how to become a Queen Rider and a leader. Although I do have to give you fair warning. I know the other Bronzes save for Demnoth will be vying for Artemth's affections, but Coth will do what he can to outsmart and outfly them all."

Calyssa smiled and followed J'sen onto the dance floor. She put her hand on his shoulder and was tempted to rest her head on his shoulder as well, but not just yet. Maybe soon though. She smiled up at him her blue eyes dancing. "This has been a great day," she said softly, swaying to the music. She loved to dance and being with J'sen only made it better in her opinion. Her red dress swirled around her ankles as they moved.

Cheriss finally glanced back up when S'tex called her beautiful. A soft shake of her head told of her own insecurites. She might pass as pretty in Myrna's dress, but she knew she wasn't beautiful. Her hair for one could be longer, and there had to be a dozen more reasons she couldn't be beautiful.
But enough of the insecure thoughts, Cheriss decided to enjoy the night no matter what. So finding a soft smile hidden in the corners of her mind, Cheriss smiled at her partner and friend. "Thank you for asking me to dance. I know I'm attracting all sorts of stares, but this is fun." A soft giggle showed her excitement and the twinkle in her grey eyes showed her sencerity.

S'tex could see the uncertainty in Cheriss' eyes. He sighed softly. He had meant when he had told her she was beautiful. She might not have been the drop dead gorgeous girl, but he didn't care. She had friendly eyes and was always kind. That mattered more to him then looks and he wanted her to be happy. It had been a good day for them all.
He smiled when she started to smile. "That's better," he said gently with a nod. "And you're very welcome. I find you a great partner to have." The boy shook his head. "Ignore the others. They're just jealous that I have you as a partner," he smiled. He was glad that him and Calyssa had befriended D'mar and Cheriss before the Hatching. He hoped their friendship would last a lot longer. "And it is fun. Dancing is supposed to be fun."

M'lym took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. "Sorry, I just got fed up," he told Meera, sighing. He handed E'lon the napkin, letting him take over.
"Thanks, Meera, but I think I have it under control," E'lon told the greenrider. It was funny how fast his father calmed down around her, like he was embarrassed to act too grumpy. It looked like the food had stopped flying now and the music was started up for dancing. E'lon caught a look of panic cross his father's face. Naturally, M'lym was a horrible dancer. "Meera, would you like a dance?" E'lon asked, deciding to step in.

Meera smiled in sympathy, putting a gentle hand on M'lym's shoulder. "It's okay," she said. "We've all had a long day. And after the fight between Q'del and G'rett I can't really blame you." She was glad to see that he did let E'lon finish taking care of his own clothes though.
She nodded as she watched the new rider manage to get the rest of the food off his clothes. Meera hadn't really noticed how fast M'lym had calmed down. She smiled when she saw the Harpers. The green rider loved dancing and music. She missed the stricken look on M'lym's face and turned back at E'lon's question. "I would love to, E'lon," she answered with a bright smile.

J'sen mirrored Calyssa's smile when she commented the day had turned out well. "Aye, it has," he replied. He admired the way she moved, how her dress flowed around her, how her eyes seemed to sparkle. J'sen couldn't help but wonder if he was starting to fall head over heels for Calyssa, but he knew he had to take his time with her. He didn't want to cause her nor their young dragons any grief.

The new rider smiled. She moved slightly closer to J'sen and lay her head on his shoulder as the song progressed. For the moment she was just enjoying being in the young man's arms. She knew the dangers to their dragons if they went any further, but she didn't see how this could hurt. Besides, Freyath was sound asleep. "I wonder what weyrling training will be like?" she asked softly.

Cheriss blushed again when S'tex said the others were jealous of him because of her. She really didn't understand why, but part of it might be the red dress she had on. The thought emboldened her however for once it was her in the middle of the dance floor instead of standing by the wall humming and clapping. Her cheeks still stained red, Cheriss smiled widely as she moved around the dance floor with S'tex. From somewhere deep inside, in a place she didn't quite understand she had the strangest urge to flirt back. Her cheeks redened again as she whispered shyly just barely loud enough to be heard over the harpers, "If they're not jealous of you than the rest are jealous of me for having such a handsome parnter."
