"It is a nice side perk," he said with a smile, squeezing her around the shoulder briefly. "But I'm not doing anything terribly important right now, so I'll come see your new acquisition. You should have had Eliwodth call Arkysk, he would have woken." he turned back to the infirmary and walked through the door. Seeing Sertex there he frowned slightly. Arktos supposed it was probably safe enough, but Candidates really shouldn't be wandering around here for no reason.
"Thank you for helping her out Sertex, but you should probably leave it to me now," he said, walking over to the girl. "I hear Kiyoni's Searched you from Forest Edge. I'm Arktos, the Candidate Master. Once you get out of quarantine, I'll be in charge of you."

She grinned up at him, "Next time I'll make sure I just come to see you," she said, leaning against him briefly, wishing they had a bit more time. The search rider shrugged slightly. "I know I should have. I just didn't think about it earlier." Kiyoni frowned slightly when she saw the look on Arktos' face. "Don't be mad at him. I was the one that let him help," she said quietly. She didn't want the boy to get in trouble. She had known she shouldn't have let Sertex help, but she had really needed it at the time.
Sertex's face flushed. "Yes sir," he said, getting back to his feet. "It was nice meeting you, Luna." With that the boy hurried away before he got in bigger trouble.

Luna jumped and looked at him. "In charge of me in what way? I'm sorry but I've never been in a weyr before I've been holdless for some turns so I don't knowwhat your talking about or anything else. But I do know how to wirte and read and do sum if I have to and I know my teaching as much as anyone."
Luna looked down at her hands.

He shook his head to reassure her. "I'm not mad. I just don't want to get them in the habit of coming here to visit. We've already got one Candidate with Cloudlung," he said for her ears alone. That would be Terahar, who was weyrbred. He had gotten it from his mother, and there was nothing that could be done about that. They were just lucky it hadn't spread beyond him, to his brothers or father. It had been caught early. Arktos laid his hand on her shoulder as he walked by to let her know that there was nothing to forgive.
He examined the girl appraisingly. She was very thin, probably malnourished, and he could see by the way she moved that she had been ill treated. Arktos really hated people who mistreated children. "It only means," he said a little more gently, "that I'll be in charge of your lessons and chores until you Impress. You'll be here, under the care of the Healers, for a sevenday, and then you'll come live in the Barracks. You'll have a set schedule, and some rules to follow," he said. He looked back at Kiyoni. Obviously there was a story behind this Search which he needed to hear.

Kiyoni smiled in relief. At least Sertex wasn't in trouble because of her. The young search rider's face paled. "Now I can see why you're being extra careful," she said quietly. She relaxed a bit when she realized Arktos had already forgiven her blunder. Kiyoni nodded slightly as she listened to Arktos and Luna. She knew he was going to have a lot of questions about this Search. And she couldn't blame him. It had been an odd one after all. She was just glad Luna was safe now.

Luna looked at him and nodded. "I can understand it's better to be safe then sorry. A seven day what will I do while I'm here? will I'll be alone?"
