Q'del raised his glass along with everyone else, smiling to see Toniel smile. It was an expression that did not often grace her features, and like the rest of her personality, it was subdued. But it only made her more beautiful to him. She looked at him, and he flushed slightly to have been caught looking, and paid stern attention to his goblet, drinking about half of it down. It really was a good wine. He might have to inquire from the Headwoman about the vintage. He looked around at everyone, seeing many that grieved their own losses, both silently as Cybele, and he suspected, Toniel, or openly as Arktos did. He realized, not for the first time, that he was lucky. Of all his family, he had only lost his father, whom he had not been very close to. With this sobering thought, food began to arrive. it all looked delicious and he realized he was starving.
He looked up as Toniel spoke. "I agree. The sauce on the herdbeast is especially good. I'd ask for the recipe, but if I tried to cook, I'd likely burn the weyr down."
Cybele laughed heartily at the picture his words envinced. "I had many Turns of strict tutelage under the weyr's cook, because apparently it is traditional for the Weyrwoman to know how to cook. How she despaired of me. I'm not sure I ever made an edible thing." Now even if she'd wanted to cook she was too busy.
Suddenly Arktos piped in from two seats down. "I remember she cooked lunch for the Candidates once, when I was standing. I thought it was fine...but most of the others were ill." The Candidate Master had an unusual mischievous glint in his eye. But then, he'd had three glasses of wine.
Quindara nodded agreement with Edilon as she began to eat. "It would be nice. Plus, once more Candidates get here, I think the Candidate Master has some more exciting classes planned. I can't wait to touch the eggs though." This time, she wouldn't fail. She looked in the direction the other Candidate pointed in. "Oh he *is* cute. I think I shall have to make his acquaintance later. Though I also like T'tarel, he has lovely eyes. As for the Flight, who knows? Chandrath hasn't shown the slightest preference. I'm guessing my brother will keep Demnoth out of it if he can. But I think your father's bronze has as good of a chance as any."
