Lukath crooned and caught up for a moment with the gray. He found great amusement in her since accepting her into his circle of protection.
M'cal smiled. "I'll admit it was scary. I think I's more worried 'bout Lukath winnin' 'cause it was a guy rider. Thankfully he didn't win, but so far things've worked out. Lukath chases, but he don't catch if there's a guy rider. I'm sure Ralith'll be the same way for ya'. Only choose a guy rider as a winner." He smiled and turned enough to see his sister's face. "I can find a lady rider to help ya' talk 'bout it some, if ya' want me to," he offered as an idea. Maybe if it was another woman talking, it might be easier for her.

Ralith crooned happily. The gray was enjoying herself tremendously. She loved being around Lukath.
Kikaya looked down at her hands. That sounded simple enough. But if his dragon didn't win then he didn't have to worry as much. Kikaya was stuck. She would be forced to sleep with whoever caught her beautiful gray. Male or female. She buried her face, not wanting M'cal to see her fear. She shook her head. "I don't know any of the girls," she whispered. And did she really want to talk to a stranger about all this?

Suddenly, a thought dawned on M'cal. The WeyrlingMaster Assistant was a younger rider. More easy to relate to, he thought. And she had firelizards, too, so maybe she could help his sister out. Smiling, he looked down at his sister again. "I know someone ya' can talk to," he said cheerily. At least the greenrider might be easier to talk to since she had been helping them learn what Z'zak and K'ain had missed. "How 'bout we flag down Assistant Kikikaa at dinner time? She ain't a whole lot older 'an us. I'm sure she still 'members 'er first flight." Who would not remember that? It seemed like a pretty big deal. Especially Kanly's first flight.

Kikaya kept her face hidden. She knew her brother was trying to help, but he couldn't fix everything. And this was one thing that he couldn't change. Ralith would rise rather Kikaya wanted it or not. The girl slowly looked up at her brother. The teenager shrugged a little. "I guess," she whispered. She hadn't thought about talking to Kikikaa. She liked the green rider, but she was still leery about talking about her problem. Kikaya sighed. It appeared she wasn't really going to have a choice though. Maybe talking to the Assistant Weyrling Master would be alright.

M'cal smiled at his sister and reached up to gently brush away some tears from her cheeks. They would do alright. Once they got the training they had been deprived of, they would be just fine. Nova was the true Weyr and M'cal had always known that. He just did not know how to find it after he had learned to Between. "We'll be alright, Kika," he said softly. "We're both alive. We don't gotta worry 'bout gettin' beat if we do wrong, jus' grounded an' extra duties for a bit. We'll track down Assistant Kikikaa and at least ya'll get a better idea what to expect. I'll even post myself outside the flightroom when Ralith Rises just in case," he added with promise in his expression and voice.
Lukath crooned as he let the younger dragon reach their destination first. You've won! Wasn't that fun? he asked merrily.

Kikaya sniffled softly. She couldn't remember the last time she had cried. She sure hadn't when they were with K'ain. K'ain wouldn't stand for any sign of weakness. The young gray rider nodded slightly. "I know," she whispered, scooting closer to her brother. She knew they were safe now. And things would get better. She just couldn't help but worry a bit. Kikaya actually chuckled softly. "I appreciate that," she said softly. Just knowing that M'cal would be close was enough to stem her fears a bit.
Ralith bugled happily. That was fun! the gray said cheerily. She liked being with Lukath. Of course it probably helped that their riders were so close.

M'cal smiled and gave his sister a hug. They would be just fine. He was as certain as his blue had cracked shell about that. "See? We'll be just fine. You'll be fine whenever Ralith does Rise an' I'll be there for ya' just in case anythin' goes wrong, even a lil' bit," he promised her with a smile. His greatest duty was to protect her and he would hold true to that personal oath for as long as he lived.
Lukath crooned again and looked back across the lake at their riders. Race back to Ours? he asked merrily.

Kikaya leaned against her brother. As long as she never lost him she knew she would be okay. Even if she was still scared at times. "I guess at least we're not still with K'ain," she whispered. She didn't know what she would have done if Ralith would have rose while they were still with him. She shuttered at the mere though. She stayed close to M'cal. "I hope nothing goes wrong," Kikaya whispered.
Ralith splashed around happily. The gray looked back at their riders. Okay! she exclaimed happily.

M'cal smiled. "K'ain ain't no more. We don't gotta worry 'bout him ever again," he assured her before letting out a soft chuckle. "Quit worryin' so much. I'll make sure ya' meet up with Assistant Kikikaa before the day's over. Nothin' will go wrong at all. Ralith is young and beautiful just like her rider. Ev'rything will be as fine as the sun keeps risin' and settin'," he told her matter-of-factly.
The icy blue dragon angled his smaller body toward their riders upon the distant shore, then looked over at the gray who was bigger than him, yet younger. Ready? he inquired of her. After her confirmation, he bugled a merry, Go! and took off through the warm waters.

Kikaya smiled slightly. It had been awful to hear the dragons' keening, but she wasn't upset to know K'ain was gone. He had been a monster. What type of person would kidnap children? She quickly pushed those thoughts away as she leaned against M'cal. "Alright," she said quietly. "I think talking to Kikikaa will be a good thing." She was nervous, but probably a smart thing to do. She had to know what to expect. She flushed at his compliment. "Do you really think so?"
Ralith bugled happily again as she watched Lukath. The young gray was looking forward to the race back. Her tail twitched as she waited to go. The gray shot through the water after Lukath as fast as she could.

M'cal grinned. "Of course I do! What gal could be more prettier than my sister?" he asked, his hazel eyes dancing at the change in Kikaya's mood for the better.
Lukath kept up a lead on Ralith until just dragonlengths from shore where he slowed just enough to let her overtake him. Her ego, as his called it, was still developing so he did not want to damage it any since he protected her as much as he did his rider and hers.

Kikaya's face flushed. The young teenager had never thought of herself as pretty. Actually, she tried to keep it hidden at the Rebel Weyr. The last thing she had wanted was for one of the older riders to take a liking to her. She shuttered at the very thought. "I hope things get better after this first Flight," she whispered, laying her head against his shoulder.
Ralith gamely tried to overtake Lukath. The gray didn't mind if she won or lost. She was just having fun racing and glad that the blue was playing with her. She bugled happily as she passed Lukath at the very end.

M'cal smiled and rubbed his sister's back as she leaned against him. "They will. Ev'rything gets better here. Nothin' gets worse. Not even the return of Thread in these skies. 'Member Z'zak and El'dan talkin' 'bout that once in a while? It sounds scary, but that's what we're supposed to do. We're all fighters for a reason," the young bluerider said, reminiscing on one of the few better things under K'ain's rule.
Lukath stopped, flaring his mirror-like wings to stop even faster and also sending a wave of water toward the shore. Ralith had won again, but the blue was even more smug as his wave managed to reach his rider. Since they had been at the Weyr, the blue had actually found a playful side that showed now and again, today being one of those times.

Kikaya stayed close to him. She sighed softly. "Nothing could be as bad as being under K'ain's rule," she whispered. She knew that for a fact. That had been awful. The girl nodded. "I do remember those stories." She had actually enjoyed listening to Z'zak and El'dan. They were a lot different then K'ain and they actually seemed normal. Maybe life would be alright here.
Ralith rumbled with laughter as Lukath sent a wave of water toward the shore. The gray liked when Lukath was in a playful mood. She was still young, so she definitely still liked to play.

M'cal smiled and was about to speak again when his blue's wave of water reached them. Sucking in a breath at the unexpected dousing, the young rider soon began to laugh. "Lukath!" he managed in nowhere near a scolding manner, standing up. He held a hand down to his sister to offer her help up and added, "Ya' wanna help me wash 'im?" still laughing from the wave's result.
Lukath craned his neck in a questioning gesture as the result of his wave brought about laughter from his rider. Laughter. Happiness. The young dragon was amused and confused, but he soon drifted to happiness when His mentioned a washing. Mine is going to wash me. Will Yours wash you? he asked the younger gray.
