Elliwodth was so...small. Edilon was used to helping his father with Iverasth, and that was an entirely different chore. Of course, Elliwodth was still huge by human standards, but the green was so petite compared to a bronze. Edilon wondered if all the candidates would even be needed. He didn't really pay too much attention to Arktos's lecture, since he already knew how to wash a dragon. He even had old, oily clothes to wear from when he helped his father out. Instead, he studied the people around him. He had to keep himself from chuckling when Arktos referred to Kiyoni as a "friend." Anyone who followed Weyr gossip knew it was more complicated than that, although not even Edilon knew everything.
"Hello, Elliwodth," he said as he grabbed a brush and stepped up to the green. He scrubbed the brush over her bright hide. Edilon was enjoying working with the other candidates, and watching the less experienced ones get their first up-close encounter with a dragon. "You're right, I can't wait to have my own dragon to wash," he agreed with Sertex.
Velain, meanwhile, was nowhere near as enthusiastic. He removed his shoes and his good tunic, which he certainly didn't want to get dirty. That left him shirtless and a little embarrassed. Rolling up his pants to his knees, he took a brush, but he watched the others before joining in. This seemed like awfully hard work. Would he really have to do this all the time? Maybe Impressing wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
Hesitantly, he stepped up to Elliwodth and ran the brush over her hide, but he knew he was being too light. The green's hide felt so soft, and he didn't want to scrub at it like she was a kitchen floor.
